There will be a vote to impeach but a lot of Democrats will be voting “present” and the vote will fail. This absolves leftist Democrats who can say “we did our duty but these blue dog Democrats wouldn’t get on board!” And the Democrats with competitive districts can say “we voted based on the evidence not partisan concerns,” and everyone’s political positions are preserved.

Trump still gets to crow though

I agree, it was awful. I'll beat this horse to death though. Watching it matters. This is both sides of the aisle. These are our most directly representatives and it's an utter joke. It's pitiful on so many levels.
88   WookieMan   2019 Dec 18, 9:32am

WTF? Nadler is now there? Missed the rules committee for a family emergency yesterday? They're not even hiding how much they know this is bull shit. Lefties... explain?
89   Shaman   2019 Dec 18, 10:38am

Ok, I’m still sticking by my prediction, but here’s an even trickier possibility. The articles are bullshit, the obstruction charge is total bullshit especially since it’s being reviewed by the Supreme Court which in itself validates Trump’s actions. The Abuse of Power article isn’t referenced in the Constitution as a reason for impeachment. So an argument could easily be made that it’s unconstitutional on its face!
Since the Supreme Court Chief Justice will preside over the trial, an attorney or counsel for Trump’s side could make a motion to dismiss based on the charges being unconstitutional, and Roberts could confirm (with good conscience) that this is indeed so, and the trial is skipped altogether. Which both sides want, especially Pelosi’s side. They get the “impeachment” they wanted without a costly trial which they didn’t want.
It would go a long way towards explaining why they went ahead with impeachment on total bullshit articles.
90   Shaman   2019 Dec 18, 6:42pm

So... I was wrong! Democrats are crazier than I ever had thought! They want the Presidency and know they haven’t a prayer vs. Trump at present so they’re gambling that tarring him with the impeachment brush will do the trick and make people hate him enough to pull the lever for their guy or gal.
They don’t care if they lose the House. They weren’t doing anything with it anyway. To get their progressive agenda done requires the Supreme Court and that requires the President to appoint activist Liberal justices! So they’re going for broke, impeaching Trump over fucking nothing just to smear him.
It’s disgraceful and it’s going to lead to their ultimate demise as a party.

Honestly, I couldn’t be happier! They’ve signed and sealed their own execution order. It’s all done except for the sky screaming.

I will wait till the next election and I predict that Trump and the Republicans will be defeated. Conscientious Republicans will vote against this morphed Trump party for the sake of democracy. Hopefully the next president can reunite the US.

You are very out of touch if you think there’s Republicans out there in any appreciable numbers that don’t support President Trump.
94   Ceffer   2019 Dec 18, 10:38pm

So. Congress is a rigged kangaroo court, with the Dems going from shameless to disgraceful. It's clear from their body language they are being commanded from their on-high handlers to proceed. They don't believe anything they are saying. They've turned it from a legislative body to a transparent whorehouse.

Nothing to see here, move on.

I hope America takes the irresponsible Democrats out to the woodshed just like Corbyn's Labour got beaten. Kept from a whiff of power for a generation.

Not the most politically aware democrat can actually tell me specifically what the President is being impeached for.

"Abuse of Power"
"What specific abuse did he commit?"
"He specifically abused his powers, Orange Man Very Bad, Very abusive of his powers."

Supposedly, it was some kind of bribe but that's not mentioned in the articles at all.

The Dems will behave just as Labour UK is behaving now - total denial, blame the public, act flabbergasted their policies and attitude was firmly rejected. They might, like some Momentum Labourites, insist the Media wasn't biased enough for them.

Trump did the unforgivable. He went after a very vulnerable Democrat standard bearer, and attempted to shine a light in an area all had agreed was off limits - the obvious corruption of our "leaders." How do the Dems explain Hunter Biden's mysterious talents that led to such a large payout? Or Pelosi's incredible wealth? Or Epstein's connected friends? It's a warning shot from the PTB. Remember, senators from both parties voted to confirm criminal bankster Hank Paulson. That is not an accident.

Nobody, here or in Congress, can state the high crime or misdemeanor our president has committed because he is only guilty of trying to make America great. His opponents got nothing but hate.

It’s a desperation move...a Hail Mary.... to prevent Republican presidents 12 more years, which would lead to a 7-2 conservative majority on the SCOTUS after Ginsberg and Breyer kick the bucket.

That would likely lead to decades with a conservative majority.

It's not an echo chamber unless you only listen to Fox, which I don't at all. This will likely be the demise of Democrats as a US political party. I think it's unfortunate as I think competition to get the best people makes our government better. I would not be surprised at all to see them run out of money or literally go bankrupt. Yesterday was a sad day, and not for the reasons most people think.

Oh well. I guess we can at least enjoy the coming circus that won't involve the POTUS being removed and then getting another term. Warren and Sanders are fucked now too and any other Senator running. I hope to god this wasn't to push Biden through to get the nomination as well. Jesus, as I keep thinking of game plans for Dems, they all result in failure. ALL of them.
101   ignoreme   2019 Dec 19, 6:25am

I think we are giving way to much credit to the Democrats here. This isn’t some grand scheme to win back the presidency.

The only thing this vote did was protect Pelosi and other Democrats in liberal districts from being primaried. They’ve been using TDS to whip up their base for the last 4 years and now they get to reap what they sowed. After 2018, impeachment was inevitable or Nancy and Chuck would have been out.

Now this will go to the Senate the following will happen:

1. Trump will be acquitted.
2. There will be either no trial or a very short trial.
3. Democrats will lose the house in 2020
4. Trump will remain president.

There is literally no good news for Democrats in this vote other then Nancy gets to stay Democrat minority leader and gets to keep getting paid by whoever is paying her.

I’m fairly sure there won’t be a long trial in the Senate. It fucks the Democrat top tier candidates too much. Also it fucks Biden cause then we get to see Hunter plead the 5th.

If Democrats are doing anything clever it’s that they sent such crappy articles that Roberts will throw them out on day 1 and that’s probably intentional.

We'll see. I think Trump wants a long Senate process. I know most Republicans don't and probably for their own reasons. Everyone has been fucking around on the side and this could open a can of worms for a lot of people. Trump doesn't believe there's a legitimate candidate that can beat him and unfortunately he's probably correct. He knows there's not enough proof or support to remove him. Whether the Dems know it or not, Trump just stuck the knife in their back and I think he wants to twist it and make it more agonizing.

There's also the cash situation: https://www.opensecrets.org/parties/ Republicans literally have $100M more cash on hand and little to no debt. Trump won 2016 with substantially less cash compared to the DNC and Hillary. If his strategy is the same AND he has the cash in swing states, 2020 is going to be embarrassing. All this impeachment shit is food for his base and will likely turn a lot of independents towards him as the economy is kicking ass and taking names. Hell, they might not have to spend that much and can build a huge war chest of cash for future elections for purple districts. This is why I think the Democratic Party could literally crumble and go bankrupt.

I agree but he won’t get it. Republican and Democrat swamp don’t want a trial. The only way there is a trial is if they figure out some way via senate rules to not let Trump call witnesses. I don’t see why Republicans would agree to that even if they are swamp.

No, Nancy delivered on impeachment. Mission accomplished. Live to fight another day. Shaman miscalculated that Democrat leadership wouldn’t be willing to throw their party under the bus to keep personal power. He doesn’t understand these are sociopaths.

That idea does make their actions more understandable. It’s as if they were on a certain path to destruction with hundreds of blinking arrows and signs warning of the cliff ahead but the train conductor said everything is going perfectly and we have plenty of fuel so full steam ahead!

It’s better this way. Such people deserve to lose goddam everything.

I wouldn't say unfortunately. He's certainly far from perfect but his track record compared to the previous losers is outstanding. I'd be looking forward to 4 more years of Trump. I'd eventually like somebody like Rand Paul in there but with a tight leash on immigration, but until Republicans or even heartland Democrats rediscover their ballz to stand up to the SJW regressive cultural-marxist leftoids like Trump did Trump is the best we can get.

The only reason I say unfortunately is because I think competition is good for everyone including Trump. The Dem field is frankly embarrassing. Regardless of where I end up voting each election, an uncontested candidate is never a good thing for all of us. Creates complacency.

IMHO Trump is literally uncontested at this point. I think he's done fine/good to date, but I don't think it's a good situation overall. And the way the Dems are imploding, we're going to end up with one party rule and a potential super majority. That scares me a little bit if I'm being honest.

Fair point, but I def want to keep a tight leash on immigration for a while until this open borders frenzy has receded, currently many countries have changed or are changing from open borders nutjob policies to reasonable policies like they used to be and soon maybe even Dems will at least partially support those once they found out that they can't get any of their current nutjobs elected and then fire the Squad and the whole regressive cultural-marxist left that has besieged the Dem party for too long. I think we need 4 more years of Trump.

I didn't see Pelosi send it to the Senate. Is she really in any rush and why can't she still gather evidence? Tell us what says she has to send it and still can't gather evidence?

The bag of shit is burning on NP's front porch. If she wants to let it burn and start the house on fire, then go for it. Lol!

The Democrats need a thorough drubbing (like Labour had last week in the UK) to shake them free of their SJW and Marxist insanity.
114   MisdemeanorRebel   2019 Dec 19, 9:51am

Hours before the Wednesday vote, Mark Rapparport said he knew what would transpire. The 56-year-old Costa Mesa real estate developer with sunglasses and a big smile got off his cellphone in Newport Beach and looked into his crystal ball.

House lawmakers, with a few exceptions, will vote along party lines and approve impeachment articles, he said. This kicks the can to the Senate, where a “BS trial” will commence, he continued. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is likely to hold a trial with no witnesses, he predicted.

So far, he’s pretty much on the mark, and he’s deeply unhappy about it.

Still, he credits Pelosi’s “amazing instincts.” He believes the process so far has been “worth it.” But he’s looking nervously to the 2020 election, worrying about how the impeachment will play out and whether voters will turn their back on a president he says is deplorable.

Did Republicans get any Independents to side with them? You do know that fewer people voted to impeach Clinton than Trump and it was delayed due to bombing in Iraq.

What's your point? Each state gets two senators. The country feels that Republicans have a better vision for the country. House districts are mainly based on population. Most normal people don't give a fuck for the policies of SF, LA, Chicago and NYC. Cool, they get the House which is half of one branch and the other two are controlled by the other party. Temper tantrum continues.

What independents?

The only Independent in the House I can think of is Justin Amish, a Palestinian Hyper-Neoliberal China-outsourcer Anti-semite who won't be re-elected.

Edit: And, he was the only non-Democrat to vote to impeach Trump. He'll be selling generic silver rounds and pushing Gold IRAs by this time next year.

When one makes so many predictions and so few turn out to be right I take those people's opinions with a grain of salt.

List 'em chief....

I mentioned in this actual thread that I thought Shaman was overly optimistic about Dems voting not to impeach. Wasn't a knock, just being realistic. I thought more would turn myself and I was wrong. What you don't understand is that it doesn't matter what the representatives do. It's what the voters do 11/2020.

There has been no victory with this. I'm not going to use buzzwords that everyone else is using. This is going to go down as the worst mistake in the history of American politics. If you're enjoying it, I don't get it. No one should enjoy what's going on.
