Nothing causes both productivity gains and the NEED to pass some of those gains to the workforce than a smaller population.

And of course getting those gains to the workforce will create better economic conditions for family formation...

A smaller population increases the ration of raw materials and natural resources per person. As long as the majority has a reasonable chance to own and control these, it seems like their wealth should increase.

Natality is influenced mostly by culture. Effective birth control has been available for less than 100 years and cultures are still adjusting. In a few generations the non-breeders will become a small minority.

In the West, we must work to make sure that Christian culture will be propagated and dominant. I don't know much about the alternatives, but I know communism is bad and Islam doesn't seem good.

I don't think low population is a cause for concern, except if a country can't produce enough soldiers to defend against its enemies, of if there are environmental factors which prevent reproduction.

Those who live off the work of others might not like a decreasing population.

If we notice a decreasing population, a pertinent question might be to question our culture and see what causes people to refrain from raising up the next generations.

It's self correcting, hence why rentiers and employers hate it so much: They're forced to train labor, attract labor, reward labor due to a smaller resource pool.

That's why companies like Perdue that fight Holiday OT Pay laws give entire days off for their immigrant work force to march for more immigration and taxpayer paid benefits (externalizing costs of employment to beyond the firm).

In the long term, having to shift more productivity gains back into wages like the US in the Golden Era (before ~1973). At the same time, housing costs decline.

That means more secure, cheaper/better standard of living workers start homeownership and families eariler.

Earlier household formation is THE #1 postive correlation for fecundity.

It's cyclical of course.

The low population most importantly leads to more political power for the working class.
The most notable was the Magna Carta, which influenced the Founders of the USA.
Edit: The Magna Carta happened after the plague killed off so many peasants or serfs that the landowners were forced to give them rights because they were still needed but there were fewer of them.

Importing hundreds of thousands of foreign workers (they all work or do crime) lowers the political power of American workers.
Edit: Foreign workers also lower wage bargaining power of American workers.
