Former marijuana users had significantly fewer reports of prostate cancer compared with nonusers
Multivariate analysis showed former users had significantly lower odds of prostate cancer compared with nonusers.
Active and former marijuana users reported significantly lower prevalence of prostate cancer compared with nonusers, according to data presented at ASCO Genitourinary Cancers Symposium.

Results from the cross-sectional study showed white users and older users also had substantially reduced rates of prostate cancer compared with nonusers with similar demographics.

“These results allow us to hypothesize that the use of marijuana may have resulted in activation of cannabinoid receptors on prostate cancer cells and slowed tumor progression, resulting in lower rates of self-reported prostate cancer in the survey,” Turab J. Mohammed, MD, hematology and oncology fellow at Moffitt Cancer Center, told Healio.

Background and methodology
Preclinical data suggest cannabinoids have antitumor effects on prostate cancer, according to background information provided by researchers.

“Exploring pathways to reduce the prevalence or slow tumor progression can benefit patients individually and help alleviate strain on the health care system,” Mohammed said.

Researchers conducted their study to investigate the potential links between marijuana use and the frequency of prostate cancer. They used data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health to build their study cohort.

The final analysis included data from 2,503 individuals collected between 2002 to 2020. Study investigators labeled participants as current, former and never users. Nonusers made up the majority (53.4%) of the study cohort, followed by former users (40.8%) and current users (5.8%).

Marijuana variables included age of first use, number of days used in previous 30 days, use of medical marijuana and legality in state of residence.

Demographic variables included age, sex, race/ethnicity, education, marital status, income, insurance and residence status, sexual identity, cigarette and alcohol use, and whether they had served in the armed forces.

Participants self-reported their prostate cancer.

Results and next steps
Researchers reveled that significantly fewer current users (31.7%) and former users (31.6%) had prostate cancer compared with nonusers (39.9%; P < .001).

White users had lower rates of prostate cancer than white nonusers (28.9% vs. 38.3%; P < .001), and users above the age of 65 years also had decreased rates of prostate cancer compared with nonusers in the same demographic (36.4% vs. 42.4%; P = .016).

A multivariate analysis showed former marijuana users had significantly lower odds of prostate cancer compared with nonusers (OR = 0.74; 95% CI, 0.62-0.9). Current users had a similar association, but the researchers noted that statistical significance could not be determined, potentially due to low cohort numbers.

More research on this potential relationship should be conducted using approved medical marijuana, according to Mohammed.

“Medical marijuana may be prescribed to patients with prostate cancer for pain relief, improved appetite and/or nausea,” Mohammed said. “We need prospective studies to document possible differences in outcomes among patients treated with supportive medical marijuana therapy vs. those who were not prescribed medical marijuana.”

I smoked for the first time in 9 months. I then proceeded to drink a weed drink the next night. Worst mistake I've made. Out in Montana. I puked which is extremely weird for me. I know the guy that made it too. Shitty product. He's the Montana weed pioneer, so I thought it would be good. Don't drink weed.

And no, not hyperbolic. Multi millionaire that got in early on medical pot in MT. Weird dude, but super successful. His weed drink sucked though. Smoking is the best, but the ease of edibles is great.

Just make pot peanut butter. But first decarboxylate the weed. Better to eat home cooking. Smoking anything is bad for you.

Ohio legalized recreational marijuana but they haven't incorporated it into state law yet! As per a pulmonologist, "cigarette smoking is more dangerous than smoking weed".

You absorb a far higher percentage of CBD's by smoke. To absorb the same amount by eating would be bad for your liver. Use a hemp wick and a bubbler or bong, clean water.

Probably because they jerk off a lot after smoking weed.

You gots da credible references, do ya?

Here be one, albeit in a specific model in rattus rattus.

"Cannabis oil administration improved dyslipidemia, liver damage, hepatic steatosis, lipid peroxidation (improving enzymes involved in lipid metabolism), and oxidative stress. In the liver tissue, NrF2 expression increased, and NF-κB p65 expression was reduced.”

Vaporizing is the best way to take advantage of weed's effects. Vaporize flower not the THC distilled products, those always have extra bad things in them.

I tried a CBD topical cream for a sore shoulder. Didn't do diddly squat. A simple pepper patch worked wonders though.

The memory impaired potheads probably forgot they had cancer.

Smoke is the best. I just tried the liquid because I never had it and it was a buddies business. It was bad. Obviously I puked, again rare.

As a former smoker of cigs I don't think people really understand what's in them. Weed is nothing health wise if you smoke it. The best man in my wedding, his mom smokes at least a joint a day. She's 70 and living life. She looks like shit from sun damage on her skin, but she'll tick for another 20 years. Oh and she smokes cigarettes.

I actually think food is the early downfall of most besides suicide or hard drugs.

You're gonna laugh, Tommy Chong interview. He knows because he started smoking hemp(all CBD, almost no THC).

Thing I never liked about edibles is trying to dose them, fucking impossible...

I'd avoid flower too unless you know the grower. SoCal weed shops don't give a shit about organic, only look and THC percentage.

Same with mushrooms. I prefer edible at 10mg or less. I think most people get caught up with the timing if they had smoked. They then take more edibles. So that first experience they're fucked up.

Also if you're going out, planning a night can be problematic with edibles, I went to a concert in Montana in 2022 and barely made it through the night with edibles. I couldn't talk by the end of the night. I was legit trashed. I drink and smoke/eat though when hanging with buddies. So double factor. Best show I've been to and not because of the drugs and beer. So many stories that nigh.

Go to Kettle House in Missoula, MT if you get a chance and it's a band you like. Mini Red Rocks types vibe. In a mountain valley. Good sound. Cool place to see a show. Expect to get trashed if you drink 5+ beers as it's a craft beer venue.

You have to titrate the homemade edibles. Make a large batch of marijuana peanut butter, and take incremental doses. There is a lag effect, but if you find that by the third half-teaspoon, you are receiving the desired effect, than 1-1.5 teaspoons thereabouts may be the dose you need. Or you can just dive in and gamble on fusing with the furniture for a few hours.

Same with mushrooms

Far back in the day, I trucked up from San Diego to Irvine (?), I think, to catch the Grateful Dead with friends. Took two tabs of acid in the parking lot but wasn’t feeling it. Took two more in the cattle chute heading into the concert, when the first two started kicking in. Was just trying to maintain at that point. Saw one of my fellow travelers fried out of his mind, giggling and hugging a tree. Just maintain. Stay on target. Plopped down on the grass and enjoyed the show. Was acutely aware of the purposeful sound effects. I was still tripping at the end, wandering the lot trying to find the car. Luckily my friends waited for me. Made it back to San Diego and went to Roberto’s taco shop. The meat in the carne asada burrito was moving around like worms. What a strange trip it had been.

My stuff I can dose ok, but never found consistency with other people's edibles.

I hate smoking joints with my dick.
