I think I did play a computer game where the Soviets were invading DC and all the familiar buildings were bombed out, but I can't remember which one. The Wolefenstein games are hilarious with the variety of loathsome Nazi villains. There is a pretty good Russian computer game called Metro Exodus, with exotic beasts and multiple locales, but the usual frozen Moscow post apocalyptic hellscapes, too.

This is a standard genre even the west. Haven't you heard for For All Mankind?

Alternative histories are commonplace. Heck, the Watchmen was an alternative history, were the US won in Vietnam because Dr. Manhattan was created.

It's not a particularly popular genre in the west either. I rather hate it myself.

But a lot of people don't recognize alternative history either. Every "historical" re-enactment is heavily embellished and people don't recognize it that it's not what really happened, or even close to it. Take for example Red Tails which was about the Tuskegee Airmen, most of that was fiction, the only thing was they were an all black group of pilots because it was before desegregation.
