Until he shows up in court and it turns out he has dozens of felony warrants . . .

He was taking according to his needs. Why do they hate the commons? LOL!

Perp got justice. At the end they just let him up with a sore ass.

I don't think he is going to call the police, " I just got spanked for trying to rob a bodega!".

No need to call any police, just a lawyer. It will be a civil case.

Retail theft: Walmart, Home Depot, Target detail 'unacceptable amount' of crime

Walmart US CEO John Furner echoed that sentiment, saying: "Shrink has increased a bit this year. It increased last year. It's uneven across the country."

Shopping in store can be effective, especially to get things "now". However, I wouldn't if they went back to a "Service Merchandise" approach where you buy in store, but get everything delivered to you at the front after selecting the items. This would require a good a good amount of automation, though.

Or, just open up a section of a big shipping warehouse for "pickup" orders where I can order online and just drive up and have the items placed in my trunk. Again, via the automation that's probably already at the warehouse.

Already done at Walmart. Just park in a special spot and an employee loads your car. Especially groceries.

Tractor Supply cites location as being one reason why it has less theft. Also its products are harder to steal. And they have more staff walking the floor to keep an eye on the store.

The CEO of Tractor Supply has noted that organized theft has increased significantly over the last few years.

I could still see organized thugs steal from them such as the clothing lines and tools if this store was in places like Los Angeles.

I like the Sams Club way. Its harder to steal by having an associate check your receipt with what is in your shopping cart.

I think retail should employ something like that. Granted, organized thugs could just push through and knock the associate down.

That is why there needs to be another layer of security like have a fenced area around the entrance with another associate to perform a second check. It is a deterrence as far as reducing shoplifting and retail shrinkage, which the costs get passed to the consumers.

Some retailers say shoplifting has gotten so bad that they are removing name brands from their shelves, instead offering store brands that have lower resale values.

At Giant Food, a supermarket chain with 165 stores in the DC area and surrounding states, at least one struggling store has decided to put products at higher risk of theft — things like Tide detergent, Dove soap, and Pantene shampoo — in locked boxes or pulling them from the shelves altogether, The Washington Post reported. As an alternative, it will offer cheaper store brands.

I never stop for that kind of crap. If they think I've stolen anything, call the cops - don't just assume I'm a fucking thief and pat me down. I never put up with that crap. Fry's (when it still existed) used to do this, Walmart sometimes does this. It's extremely insulting.

The real solution to retail theft, is stores have to have a pot of money, and whoever kills the corrupt DA, gets the pot.

It's going to take murder to fix this.

Put shoplifters in work camps.

Chesa Boudin was fired (or recalled) as San Fran district attorney. He did not want to enforce the law as far as shoplifting.

I am not in favor of shoplifters. I oppose being ASSUMED to be one.

I have never stolen anything in my life.

I've walked out with a candy bar in my pocket once. I returned to the store to pay for it.

The solution to shoplifters is to record them, prove they shoplifted, then ban them from ALL stores. Put them on the wall of shame. I think shame is a great deterrent.
18   Patrick   2023 Sep 8, 5:51am

That wall of shame is going to be 90% black, and so will be opposed by the "anti-racists".

Dealing properly with a certain group would solve most crime issues.

As that Pleasanton HD covfefe demonstrated thiefs are now better armed than the loss prevention ppl.

BTW, the armed guard they hired immediately after that incident was there for less then a week.

?

Loss prevention is generally worthless when you have many small crimes.
