Some of these I agree with, others I do not. Any degree is a useless degree if you don't know how to apply your knowledge. It's like Lawyers that work for companies on retainer. They are paid horrible, and most never have other irons in the fire, because their time is consumed by the employer giving them a weekly stipend. But if you have a knack for what you majored in, many in this list would be excellent skills to use in an entrepreneurial endeavor or to serve you as a hired gun in a busy gig market. Which should be the end goal for any college grad. Working management at a 9 to 5 is a waste of any college degree IMO, and only enables the Monopiles taking over everything.

Acting
Film
Anthropology
Civilization Studies
Philosophy
Psychology
Communications
English
History
Interior Design
Marketing
Photography

Acting and Film has been destroyed by the Wokesters, so any Entertainment Biz career path is going to be tougher go than ever before. And before only the best of the best ever made it.

Anthropology, Civilization Studies, Philosophy, Psychology these are only good careers if you are seeking money from the Propaganda business. You are looking to exploit people behavior matrices for the man.

Communications is a broad subject but a great skill to have to aid in some of the other majors.

English History are only good if you're interested in academics or Diplomacy, and it's already a family business and you will have a foot in the door for employment.

Interior Design, unless you are popular at the Aventura Synagogue and recommended for every Condo decorated that's a useless job, you'll end up crunching numbers on the computer, at the Home Design center at the Home Depot, scheduling crummy cabinet and counter installs.

Marketing is one of those skills that if you're going to be a entrepreneur, inventor, or an entertainer, you wont have a better skill than marketing. It's not just marketing it's the full package. This is where communications, comes in handy, Photography, English, Philosophy, Psychology, and Acting will come handy. Knowing the processes to take an idea from concept to sitting on a shelf with branding and advertisement behind it. It's probably the biggest major here, that requires the most hustle, piss and vinegar, moxy and stamina. If you're getting a marketing major because it was something you decided on out of choice, than desire. Then it's a useless skill as well. And also one of the lowest paid skills, if you didn't get the full package stated above in your degree. If you have marketing skills and a great idea, the world is literally your oyster. If you don't it will be your Arby's road side flip sign.

Photography again it's one of those things, if you're going to set your camera up in a room in some building and expect interesting pictures to come to you, then it will be a waste. But if you can put yourself out there and can get exclusive pictures of the Ukraine conflict for example, that will be the best gig in town, if you make it out alive.

I still think "Paid Stooge of the Rothschilds' is the best major for MSM directed writers of fiction. Computers can make up for lack of literacy.

I actually think all majors in college are a pure waste. Everything should be like the trades. Decide to be a plumber go work with a plumber for 2-4 years. A chemist, the same thing. Teaching to check boxes and actually showing them what they'll need to do is massively different.

I had to check a box for my history major. African Film History. It honestly was intriguing, but a complete waste of fucking time. There's nothing I retained or will take away from it besides seeing a bunch of naked Africans. No issue with blacks, but that ain't my jam. Wasted 4 months of 2 hour a week classes that were mandatory attendance. So couldn't blow it off and get a passing grade.

I don't think most people understand that they're smarter than the person teaching. If they don't, they're doomed. Never had a professor in college that I was like "hey, that guy/gal is smart".... never. Maybe one who was a political science professor and former Chicago Alderman that rocked the boat big time (Simpson). Some fucking amazing and raw stories about Chicago politics. Fun class. He gave zero shits and bus tossed a lot of people in hindsight. He knew college kids weren't going to say anything. Now that my wife works with government officials these fuckers can eat turd salsa. They're all scum bags. I know more than most.

college is a scam. they get so much fucking government money for doing nothing. its pure welfare system.

if department of education went away, with funding, education would better very fast.
6   Patrick   2023 Jan 14, 6:50pm

The Department of Education absolutely should not exist.

If states want to waste money that way, that is their right. But the Constitution explicitly limits the federal government to specific areas, and education is not one of them.

Should add Architecture to that list.

Unless you're family with a big arch firm or otherwise have an in, it's a useless major.

World is full of cab drivers with Architecture degrees; they have some of the highest unemployment rates of any college major, continuously through time. Fewer companies building fewer models. It might have been a great major in the 50s, 60s, maybe 70s, but that was an unusual time period that won't be seen again.

Architecture is sales 100%. With the programs now anyone can draw up a house. It's a like a travel agent. Anyone can plan and book a complex trip, they're just too lazy or scared to do it.

Most people that go for Architecture do it because they love design and then realize in practice you cannot do the job unless you're selling to generally corporations or government. Not an easy task if you not a sociable person. Basically it's networking and business. Gone are the day of drawing up single family homes. Outside of mega mansions, pretty much every possible home has been built that makes sense.

i'd put Biology on the list. It is merely a stepping stone to grad school. In the biotech industry, PhD's are working as salespeople. And they are happy to do it as they don't have to endure 1 or 2 post docs as slave labor. But just an undergrad degree in Biology - it's a dead end unless you move on.

I have a black musician friend, he's 65 now, grew up in the 60's and early 70's raised in Providence RI in a White middle class neighborhood. His Dad who only had a 9th grade education. Was the main Pharmacist at the local Pharmacy. These are my favorite kind of people. I would have loved to have met the man, and shook his hand.

I should think that would be more a source of embarrassment than accomplishment!
Who would want to admit that about themselves?
I mean, if you were a dumbass slacker as a kid and spent a bunch of time and money getting that sort of utterly useless degree, why advertise it and make everyone think even less of you?
You should tell people you just got out of jail. At least then they might fear you a little!

In college, everybody that was going for psychology was crazy. I think that most people that go into that field feel they are crazy, and they are in psychology to "fix themselves".

Yes.
I know quite a few slutty females that I grew up with and they went for a psychology degree. Reformed sluts.

Right now a psych degree plus a certification for counseling is gold. There are way more people looking for mental health services than there are counselors available. They all are booked solid and most not taking new clients.

That said, the soft studies are a dead end for jobs. Especially don’t be some sort of writer like a journalist or whatever. AI will replace them first, then the grunt programmers, and office workers, and then the middle managers.
It’s going to be a white collar bloodbath in the next ten years.

Trade skilled labor, however, should continue to increase in value. We are already at a point where a plumber can make considerably more than a PhD Physical Therapist, and perhaps higher than most MDs in Primary Care.
Surgeons will continue to make millions, but the medical grunt work of primary care will slip behind the average wages for skilled tradesmen.

Nobody reads or really consumes what journalists make NOW. These people exist to give the appearance of legitimacy to the propaganda.

I'm doubtful of this, but we'll see. Most jobs don't need to be filled already. Remember when like 90% of Twitter was laid off. Twitter still operates as well as it ever did, which isn't great I admit.

Most tech companies are very overstaffed, especially with diversity hires who don't really do anything useful, but are there to signal the virtue of the employer.

That works as long as those companies are fat with cash, but the diversity hires become unaffordable when times get hard, as in right now.

@Shaman Please tell us more about that certification. I have a relative with a psych degree who is interested.

Oakland leaders work to save university after $49M loan default
Holy Names’ 56-acre campus is for education, but other schools can’t make deal pencil
It may take Providence – and appeals between the city of Oakland and a major lender – to save the 155-year-old Holy Names University in Oakland.

After the Catholic college defaulted on a $49 million loan as it prepared to close its 56-acre campus at 3500 Mountain Boulevard, Oakland leaders are urging the school to work with the lender to keep it open, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

The marketing majors I would think could get jobs. Probably not particularly good ones most of the time.

They need to teach things like how to become a real estate developer and how to start a business.

I suspect that most of the Twits who were laid off (or quit) were in the censorship department. Yeah, that implies that previously the censorship department as more than 75% of the headcount.

I'd agree with this. The main job of social media is to control what is discussed, not to allow free discussion. Go try to talk to, an Iranian, a Russian, a person from Madolva, etc.

Years ago, I commonly ran into people from Iran, Egypt, Bangladesh, etc. Now you will only run into "Westerners".

I think you mean "commonly talk to people from Iran, Egypt....". I run into non-Westerners all the time everywhere I go. Now, when I run into a Westerner it's like a surprise meeting of an old friend.
