I love snowboarding big mountains. There just aren't any near me. I have my two favorite ski resort maps posted above my desk at this moment. I'm not a terrain park and doing flips and shit guy. I just like a long ride on a green to blue. If I'm drunk give me a double black.

My dumbest was Lone Mountain at Big Sky, MT. Fuck me running. I fell and couldn't arrest myself for about 1k' (not vertical, distance). I'm also sure I fractured ribs at Bridger, East of Bozeman, MT in the same area. I have it on video. It was brutal. I'm not a pain killer guy so I limped my way to the base and drank I think 6 beers.

I love skiing/snowboarding. You put yourself in a situation that you cannot back out of, by going down a mountain. That's usually why I'm drunk on double blacks. My conservative sober brain would tell me to hop back on the lift. Drunk brain says fuck it. I haven't Sonny Bono'd myself yet. And I do wear a helmet on big mountains. I've hit the big AZ and MT mountains. Nothing in CO, UT, NV/CA. Big Sky is the shit though. Yuppied/wealthy as fuck mother fuckers and expensive, but it would take 2 weeks to hit all the runs if you're skilled enough. Fuck it. I might book a trip this week for Feb/March out to MT. Free lodging and flight.

I could never ski drink. I used to be pretty competent. I could ski a double diamond no problem, but put ONE beer on me, and I want it slow and easy. I do like mogul skiing. I've tried deep powder, but it's exhausting because you have to lean way back on the skis, but it's really cool to see your train behind you. I was taught to skii the "french?" way, skis together and one boot in front of the other at tight as possible as you went from left to right. My boots are all scraped up because of that.

Snowboarders fucked it up for us. Because the board is shorter, it made moguls packed closer, and if you're skis were too long you could practically straddle them.

Never worn a helmet and I often didn't bother with a hat.

My favorite place to ski across this country is Arapaho Basin. https://www.arapahoebasin.com/ - It's above Keystone. What's great about it is that mountain is so high up, snow doesn't melt into slush. You can faceplant into a mogul, and you'll be fine.

I CAN ski stoned, but I don't tend to do it.

Also, if you THINK you cracked ribs, you didn't. I've cracked ribs. People who say "oh, it's the most painful thing I ever experienced" are NOT kidding. It took me months to recover. I broke ribs when I got into a serious bike accident. I couldn't lie down, I couldn't laugh, I couldn't sneeze, I couldn't cough without excruciating pain. I had to sleep sitting up in a chair, with a mount of blankets and towels to lie on top of. It took more than 2 weeks before I could, very carefully, lie down. I am terrified of becoming addicted to opiates so I avoid pain killers.

That takes me back! Sunday during ski season I rode on a bus from the AF Academy to A-Basin, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Winter Park, and Keystone. I did not have your double black athletic talent, so I was content to use shorter skis. Some of us had "boda" bags of wine around the neck to drink to "keep warm." A couple of years later I went to Mammoth Mountain in California.
