Industrialists want a weak dollar to help exports, they want mild inflation to help discharge debts, they want trade that allows them to export, they want abundant modest housing so their workers can have a good lifestyle without demanding higher wages to offset housing costs AND allows workers more non-housing discretionary spending to buy their manufactured goods, they want modest government spending that emphasizes infrastructure improvements (highways, etc.) but doesn't give big bennies to the unemployed (since it provides an out vs. working for them for labor). They want to know why consumers brought one product over the other so they can compete better.

Commercialists want a strong dollar to buy assets abroad and be paid back in more valuable dollars than they lent, they want as little inflation as possible to a maximize their loan interest, they want one-sided free trade that guarantees their foreign ownership and don't care about reciprocity for exports, they want higher real estate costs that promote maximized returns and suck up as much ordinary income into their pockets as possible, they want big government spending that they can underwrite and profit from (by operating the WIC cards, as many banks do and profit from, or simply endless bond issuance by governments). They want to know everything a consumer buys so they can identify 'wasted' discretionary income or 'needs' that they can redirect into loans, credit, and banking.

Most of our problem is that Commercialists are now almost the entire top .01% and there are few if any industrialists to offset them.

This is why they had to remove Trump. He actively wanted to bring industrial manufacturing back from China.

Lot of this is why the South seceded. Industrial North wanted high tariffs while the South wanted them dropped so they could import cheaper British goods. What did the South care about northern shit. They sold their cotton to Europe more than they did to the North anyway.

True but you will get push back on that even from military historians these days. "It was ALL just waysism!"

Racism came from trying to justify slavery in an era of expanding Liberty.

Slavery was no problem to Romans or Arabs, who simply said "If you're such a big pussy to submit to slavery instead of preferring death, you deserve it" and didn't need racism to justify it.

I realized today that when China inevitably gets control of Taiwan from the weak hands of President Grandpa they will have an on/off switch for the American economy.

Ok, this should explain all about "chip shortage" thanks @Robert Sproul

The biggest chunk of chips in the world comes from there. Its very critical at this point before the diversification happen. At least Trump has initiated it.

True story...

Trump made some deals to get some fab plant(s) back to the USA mainland. Arizona I think? Samsung?

We do. not. want. West Taiwan taking over East Taiwan. We still had fab plants in the SF bay area when I moved back there in the 90s. They've stolen all of the sort of tech I work on. Apparently chip MFG is hard and is the one thing they are still behind on.

Then again Tesla comes up with some sort of custom chips for their cars, WTF, maybe not so hard?

There is a huge initial cost involved to setup. US must have few around for strategic point of view.

@MisdemeanorRebellionNoCoupForYou Where did you hear about or read about industrialists vs commercialists? This is new to me.

Honestly, I don't recall. It's been in my head for a long while. Maybe sometime during the financial crisis?

Rollout of Playstation 5 was delayed due to Taiwan chip shortage, as well as production of a lot of vehicles. $499 units wound up going on free market for 800-1000. Another good reason a la Trump to return some critical chip production to USA, even if it has to be a subsidized industry.

One would think it was foolish and short sighted to allow one vulnerable island be the high end chip bottle neck for the world. It's why crook-o-nomics winds up fucking everybody with unintended consequences.

And the boards they sit on... another thing we can't make for ourselves in any quantity anymore.
