Let's face it, the only reason why ppl would call her a minority is because she's Muslim and not eastern Orthodox or Zoroastrian. If she were the latter, she'd be a white "ethnic". And yes, the Barmakians were not originally Armenians but Persian (Buddhists or Zoroastrians) who didn't want to join forces with a bunch of Arabs.

I don't know about long ago, but I suppose it's possible. Armenia did have several kingdoms over the centuries.

That's ok from today's perspective ... that's why I'd brought up the Barmakians. They were originally Persians but later, became Armenian, as a result of the Islamification of the near east. The last three letters 'ians', added to the Barmak, makes the Armenian connection.

This is what you're missing Pat ... it has nothing to do with the race/ethnicity of these ppls, it's about Islam vs Christianity/Buddhism/Zoroastrianism/etc which is the problem.

A lot of ppl would get along if they realized that for the vast percent of the majority, their ancestors had some connection of sorts. The problem is that religion has kept these ppl at each others' throats.

My wife's uncle did a 23andme test and it found him to be simply 99.8% "Middle Eastern".

So either they don't yet have enough data to distinguish the various groups, or you can't really distinguish them.

I'm a bit annoyed that 23andme calls me half "British and Irish", but maybe it's hard to draw a cutoff line genetically.
