Nevermind. House has a contract on it.
I was going to rent it to family for the cost of the mortgage - should we choose to finance it. They would have been responsible for maintenance.
They don't know how well made some of those houses were.
I saw one in Mystic. The same guys who built ships built houses. They had *oak* posts, beams, etc. and the whole thing was solid as a whaleship.
They just picked up the house and plopped it back down in Mystic seaport as part of the village.
The materials, construction and quality of an old farmhouse is superior than the peckerwood garbage constructed by mexicans out here and eaten by termintes.
Found a place back east - 2000 sq. ft. farmhouse built in the 1800's. It's been pretty well taken care of, until the past two years when it got foreclosed on and it's sat vacant for a while now.
Anyhow, it's a nice older home that sits on 5 acres with a pond - the whole property is fenced.
Bank owned - asking $180k.
Was thinking about making an offer of $165k.
Whadda you guys think? I have family back in the area that is going to do a walk through to check on the condition of the property...
If I grab it - i'll probably relocate or rent it out to another family member who is actively looking for a rental.
