Also seeing the same in my small town outside San Diego. Plan on eating indoor this weekend, hope you'll do the same wherever you live. Not to spread disease, but to build community, socialize, support people who are hurting financially, and love. Because without love, what's the point of staying alive?

Doctors are very reluctant to hand these exemptions out.

I have been thinking about it. It is real easy to go and find a doctor-led pill mill who will prescribe you any and all crap you want if you pay. Consequently, we have enough dishonest doctors who will do anything for money. I have not yet found a Dr who, for a reasonably hefty fee, will certify that someone can not wear a mask. Either demand is not there, or Dr's face more serious consequences for this compared to prescribing pain pills.

The store is responsible for what they do and the ADA is Clear. Also, I believe all states have the medical exemption.

The ADA is clear alright, in that it is nearly impossible to qualify for a medical exemption for a face covering. Got a breathing problem, try a face shield. No ears, find another way to fasten it. You cannot just walk in and say "medical exemption," you must have proof from a doctor that you are a burn victim or otherwise exempted. Doctors are very reluctant to hand these exemptions out.

"The store is responsible for what they do" is just how the government sees it, so if people are caught in the store without a mask, the store gets cited. If anyone wants to play that "no mask because of medical exemption" trick, do it at the DMV or other government buildings.

A store cannot ask for proof.

Not sure anyone can in public. Your medical records are just that, yours. Obviously blood donation, organ donation, etc. basically some sort of medical procedure would require disclosure.

Having a broken bone (heel) and traveling, no one even blinked or asked a question for proof this past November when I went to MX. Everyone was throwing wheel chairs at me every step of the way without question. I had clearance to be out of the boot, but couldn't start PT because of the trip, so I stayed in it.

The problem comes in when managers and people you're dealing with don't understand medical conditions and combine that with Covid fear. They're going to side with the masses 9 out of 10 times regardless of law or medical condition when it comes to a mask. So even a legitimate reason to not wear a mask will get you denied. Whereas rolling up in a wheelchair they won't bat an eye about your condition or ask to see if you're actually crippled.

I admit the stores are being put in a shitty position. But, my employer just told me last Friday (employer is in MD and it was actually my immediate supervisor who told me) they can change our mask policy to no mask at any time. I am not sure this is correct though since I am not sure she knows what she is talking about. If she does know what she is talking about, then why wouldn't stores blah blah blah....this whole thing is criminal and I am only trying my damndest to find a solution where I can stand up for freedom. Why do so many people hate freedom?

The way I read the OP's title post is that we should celebrate Europe and Mexico saying fuck the mask, no?

Mexico currently is done with them for tourist. It was the most freedom I've felt since this Covid BS started, 2nd to FL. 1 in 80 people "maybe" wore a mask at the resort. Staff had half assed face shields on. It was relaxing not having to worry about it. They didn't care either.

If things ever get back to normal, I think most people are going to be like "WTF were we doing" initially with Covid. For some reason nurses and doctors can be exposed daily, but we can't go get a fucking meal or travel. I hope people are smart enough to realize the BS, but I'm not sure they are. Either way, need to fight the stupidity all the way.

The corporations are, without doubt, the enemy. They are totally on board with the scam. Does anyone need to tell you how/why?

Well, I just went the the local CVS (drug store here in Northern Va.). No mask in, out or during. I was met outside the store by an employee telling me she liked my hat as I walked in the door. I was met by 2 masked employees(?) who said hello to me as I walked by them. At least 4 employees walked around/past me as I was in the store. No one said a thing. I did use the self check-out though. Does that make me a pussy?

Not through the FAGAT companies, that's for sure.

Maybe we need a campaign where individuals call and write individual store managers and tell them this.

I'm writing https://www.traderjoes.com/contact-us/product-feedback right now...

Hi TJ,
I am truly sick of the scientifically pointless demand to wear a mask while shopping.

The FIRST grocery store to let me shop unharassed without a mask on gets all of my business FOREVER. I will gladly pay more to support science, sanity, and freedom.

I am spreading this message to everyone I know.

Bull fucking shit.

Zero evidence that wearing a mask in a large indoor space does anything at all.

Mask wearing outside of an operating room is nothing more that a psychotic phobia.

Stop the bullshit, there are multiple studies indicating that there may be an efficacy and it cost close to nothing to implement. Going against wearing masks even if it provided only a small benefit is nothing but pure dickheadedness.

You have what is called an irrational fear. Are you also afraid of getting hit by lightning? Simply going outside, at all, increases your chances of death far greater than Covid. Actually, inside and outside.

Plenty of studies that indicate there is no benefit. But the broader point is that it's people's own decision, and that of the operators of business or transit. Few would complain about wearing a mask in the subway or a store/restaurant at owners choice even if they don't like it since there are alternatives where they don't have to wear a mask. A mask really only helps with illnesses that are transmitted via droplets, not airborne ones. So then you should mandate a mask for every flu or cold since it could kill an older person. Or how about about fact that everyone who has had mono is able to transmit EBV, which can kill adults. The mask mandate is utter nonsense and unconstitutional. Let everyone incl. private businesses and the federal govt decide whether they require masks or not.
34   GNL   2021 Jan 26, 6:28pm

How can it even be a question of whether or not this whole mask bullshit is a totalitarian move? They're laughing at us. There is an agenda to this. Open your damn mind. Own yourself for God's sake.

I personally know a lot of people who’ve had Covid. 100% of them are just fine. Even know of some oldster COPD patients who got Covid and did much better than their peers because they already had medications to keep their airways clear and didn’t have to rely on the capricious doctors who’d rather frag a patient than cure them.
Fuck doctors.

WineHorror1 says

Sounds like projecting from a very self centric mindset.

Consider the environment we're in here where the level of case growth and hospital fullness are used as triggers for stricter lockdowns. We were just locked down for several weeks, school reopening plans were set back, personal care salons were closed.

Now you might say you disagree with both masks and lockdowns. But, given that environment, if masks can reduce case spread by even 10%... Wear the fucking masks. I don't see how you can claim to be pro labor and then support actions that may set back the recovery.

Calm down, you're being emotional. Stay home and hide under your bed. Let me ask you a question...are you a government employee or an old person who is scared to death?
49   GNL   2021 Jan 26, 7:08pm

I'm pretty sure I just heard, on the damn TV, that a Fauci type asshole said Covid will be around forever.

Patrick, these graphs are not that useful because they're pointing at a single variable when there are multiple changing variables. Governments slammed on the brakes with strict lockdowns, and then implemented mask wearing as they were easing off the brakes in other ways. I don't think you can reasonably tell what effect masks had or did not have without isolating the variables.

Use logic instead of emotion and life looks a lot more like worth living without being fearfully emotional.

Those that have no real argument often go for the personal attack.

If you are afraid, obese, or have some other comorbidity, wear your mask. Hide in your basement. And don't forget to keep that condom on as there's always a slim chance that you might meet a female and get her pregnant.

Sorry if I assumed your sex.

Huh, I wonder why...

I only have one 1st hand acquaintance who got Covid and they were traveling abroad at the time, and 3 or so 2nd hand reports of cases.

Then you don't know anyone, that's all that means. Not meant as a dig, but statistically everyone should know multiple people testing positive if they have 30-50 friends and family, which is a low ball number for the average human. I don't count anymore, but I personally know of close to over 2 dozen that have tested positive at this point. Travel has nothing to do with it either.

Not one got it from traveling. It was all from family members getting it through work or interacting with other friends and family. Almost all involved some form of physical touch with the person who transmitted it. Something as simple as a hug, kiss or a handshake. I've asked everyone I know that got it to contact trace and go backwards to the point they believe they got it. It was physical contact with the infected 10 out of 10 times, usually a spouse (which who knows who the spouse is touching). Others in the same room or house for hours didn't get infected without physical contact.

You'll say anecdotal as many do. I say it's fact until someone can explain it. I'll believe the facts from sources who've had Covid and can explain who they got it from. You're also focusing on just one aspect of Covid and that's the masks. You say even if 10% effective, it's worth wearing. Problem is you have false negative and positives to the tune of 20-30% of tests. The tests themselves are so far off that statistically it's impossible to verify if masks make a difference or not. You're making an assumption from bad positivity data from the word go. You can't go from A to C and completely skip if B was valid or not. You only started at A then and nothing else.

This stuff is way more nuanced than you make it. As someone severely misdiagnosed by multiple doctors, your faith in the medical and scientific field being correct will get you killed. Within the last 100 years we thought drilling out a part of your brain was a solid medical procedure. With a "novel" new virus, there are mistakes. We've already seen plenty with this one. Masks simply don't matter. The graphs Patrick posts are obvious.

Either way, it's a flu now. It's not going away. There is no and will be no vaccine that stomps this out. We can't live like this forever. If you're vulnerable stay home. Simple as that. I just had a broken heel. Had crutches. You know what I avoided? Stairs. Guess what didn't stop existing because my ailment? Stairs. We cannot punish the majority because of a vocal minority. Simple as that. If you disagree with that, you're wrong.

The vote today in the Senate basically all but sealed the deal that Trump won't be convicted and therefore will be able to hold office in the future. Rand Paul did good. The Democrats don't want to lead and Paul made that pretty clear today. Schumer's argument is that it was "common sense" that Trump as a private citizen could be impeached. That was basically it. Common sense. lol.

You'd think the party that actually "won" the POTUS and Senate would just move on. At some point seeing all the smoke coming from the Dems will eventually lead to the fire. They should be giving zero fucks about Trump right now. Republicans, as flawed as they are, gave zero shits about Obama after inauguration in 2017. He became a ghost of the past. I think Trump has dirt and the level at which he's trying to be silenced is pretty damning for the left. I think we see some good fireworks here over the coming years.
