when you clothes get dirty, just buy new ones. No bag to carry.
I backpacked around Europe for two years in college while technically a student, but not really studying. The main lesson from that time was that you want to physically carry as little as possible, but to have a lot of money available.
I had a dream of carrying nothing but a passport and credit cards with very high limits that I could easily pay off every month. That still seems like a fun life.
On a recent Joe Rogan interview Elon seemed to imply he was selling his stuff so that people can't finger point to him being a greedy billionaire fuck. If you don't really own anything, it's harder for ppl to accuse you of being greedy, especially when considering that luxury and lavish assets tend to be presented as justification when other billionaires get attacked.
Judging by the way he reacted to this and a few other questions, I think he's feeling very unappreciated and vilified by the "all rich people are evil" narrative. When talking about covid lockdowns, he seemed double angry that people didn't seem to understand that food and other "things" don't just magically produce themself. So, he was mad at the lockdowns which prevent production (and them being based on poor info / stats), and also angry at the "billionaires are bad" narrative which doesn't give any credit to what he has brought to society via his innovations and efficiency improvements.
I also think he felt his mars plan is under appreciated. For a while now, I've felt that everything Elon does is ultimately to get to mars, for the benefit of humanity. He seems very afraid that humanity will destroy itself in the near future, and wants the diversification of another planet. He has big goals, and is angry that his genius is being criticized and/or inhibited by petty propaganda fed to the masses of lowly mouth breathers. From his point of view, humanity is probably acting very self destructive in regards to him.
Zubrin says the same thing about Musk, he's keenly aware he's got maybe 20 good years and wants to get certain space goals accomplished, and doesn't care too much about money have more than he can use.
He's got to move his factories from California to Florida, where there's a business friendly environment that will consider his products "Essential". RIght now most of his plants are shutdown and he can't make Raptor Engines.
Although I don’t like Elon much, I would prefer not to own a bunch of houses either, they are just a tax liability after you have one, others are a pain in the ass.
A rich guy I know loves to travel and he stays in hotels and clubs all over the world. Then he goes back to his chateau and recharges for a while. He has one suitcase.
My neighbor loves to travel. She brings her older outfits and just leaves them or donates them as she goes, her return luggage is light as a feather.
Selling all his possessions.
