Oregon Coast Vacation

My wife and I flew to Portland then drove down the Oregon coast for our vacation this year. It was really beautiful, and nice temperatures, usually around 70F.

It was kind of strange to realize that almost everyone was white, except the town of Astoria, which is about 10% Hispanic. I guess there are not enough jobs on the coast to draw foreigners. It seems to be mostly a tourist economy, with some fishing and lumber jobs.

The big bummer of the trip was that I scraped a tire of the rental car on a vicious old curb, exposing the metal cords. So I replaced the tire for $175 at a Les Schwab and applied to my Visa card for reimbursement, because they advertise rental car insurance for that card. It was bullshit. They told me to fuck off, that the insurance is only for death and dismemberment. It's probably impossible to collect on that too. Don't believe Visa.

We went to a Thai restaurant in Depoe Bay, and the waitress was a blond woman. Weird. Then the "maid" cleaning one of our rooms at the Sylvia Hotel in Newport was a white guy. Even weirder. He did not do that great of a job, lol. The windows were dirty and we cleaned them ourselves.

Saw lots of whales spouting along the coast.

McMinville is to be avoided. It's far from the coast, hot, and absolutely plastered in the flag of sodomy and child genital mutilation.

Here's Thor's Well in Yachats, OR:

What I noticed, too. Blue eyed caucasians doing all of the repair, maintenance and janitorial work and odd jobs, hash slingers, maids etc. when we went to Washington Soap Lake area. They seemed perfectly content, too, cheerful and no bad vibes.

Eugene Farmer market is (Was?) Great. Though I hear Eugene is now mini-Portland, less DIY Hippy (which is cool) and more Drainbow people (which sucks)

Did you go out east to Mt. Hood? My favorite mountain if that's a thing. I always forget the god damn gas attendant thing out there. I stay away from the coasts, Portland obviously though it was cool when I was a kid.

I want to fly out there and take the kids to the Redwoods, probably out of Portland. Maybe try to get into Yosemite but that would be a summer trip and I know it's a shit show. I really like Northern CA and parts of OR. Wouldn't go to Portland and actually visit, just land and drive fast as I can away from it.

We didn't drive to Mt. Hood, but could clearly see it from Portland.

I assumed that the attendant had to pump my gas, because that's what I heard, but it turns out that it's optional now. I let them do it because it was the same price.

The redwood trees stop about at the border of Oregon, though there are some in the SW corner of Oregon:

That's for sequoia sempervirens, but there's also sequoiadendron giganteum, and those are in Yosemite and elsewhere.

I loved the Wawona hotel in Yosemite, and it was pretty easy to book:

But most of the rooms do not have a bathroom in the room!

Lol, we flew into Portland, got the car, and left immediately for Astoria. Astoria is a bit dumpy, but in a great location. I've had enough of Portland wokeness for several lifetimes. Not going back until sanity returns there.

I was attacked basically at the pump in OR. Dude told me I can't do that. 3-4 years ago.

As as kid went somewhere near Niagara Falls, Canada and they did the full run over on the car. Gas, Oil and anything else obvious. I was 6-7 years old and just though it was normal.

Never understood the practice. I know it creates jobs, but I can pump gas and check oil, I'm a big boy.
