I know that currently there is much government interference in people's lives. This would not add much to it, but while having businesses checking for illegals would certainly act a deterrent, I think there should be less regulation, not more. People should be able to freely enter into agreements and conduct business without notifying the government. We don't have to give up our freedom to accommodate illegals.

Yeah but if they're not paying taxes and getting the benefits of living here? Roads they use, parks their kids use, schools, a library, police, etc. They need to fill out a W-4 or W-9 no matter what. Businesses skirting this should be punished.

Fact is if they were here legally we could cut taxes even more as they pay in. 10M+ illegals just pay 10% in taxes is a big amount of money.

On paper this works. Not sure it works with international law if we follow it or persecute those that abuse it though. Also remember Mexican and South Americans are great at tunnel building. El Chapo's 1mile tunnel to escape a prison. For one guy. I wouldn't put it past them to build 5 mile tunnels if they could get $10k/head, plus drug money.

They should put electrified 4-6" diameter poles sunk 50' in the ground on the US side every foot. That would stop the tunnels and be relatively cheap. They get electrocuted when they hit it and can't get through a 8" gap. Might cost $10b but what the hell did we give Ukraine?

Gabbar above is correct; there should be law that all businesses are required to use E-Verify to hire someone.

The only incentive for illegals to come to the USA is money; if they can't work and make money, they won't come.

But, the government is NOT tracking people who come to the USA on Tourist Visas; I know several people who came to the USA as tourists and simply stayed here. NO agency tracked them nor went looking for them. Several of these (females) found suckers to marry them and "save them from deportation". One was Japanese (she asked me to marry her; rotsa ruck), one was Peruvian, one was Mexican. Another was Colombian who had a 16 year old daughter who was charming; they stayed around until some sucker married the daughter (now 21). Since the daughter would be able to apply for USA citizenship, her marriage to a sucker saved her mother also.

YES. It's the employers of criminal aliens who have been the problem all along.

They make money by undercutting American wages, and use some of that money as bribes, aka "donations" to Congressional campaigns to keep the scam going.

Mandatory prison terms for all employers of criminal aliens would put a hard stop to illegal immigration instantly. Prison, not fines. They can afford fines.

Corporations instruments created by the state that shield their owners from liability. I have no problem on requiring that corporations submit to all sort of rules.

However, it seems like both an insult and government overreach to require an american citizen (who might be self-employed or runs his business as a sole proprietorship) who hires another man to check that the latter is an american citizen.

I'm all for catching the illegals, but I don't think our freedoms should be sacrificed in the process.

These various illegals are not unmonitored unless they live in aluminum foil rooms with analog comms. Some of them who are serious terrorists might do exactly that, but not the rank and file.

The solution is simple - go back to the pre 1960's "immigration reform" and commence the post-WWII brain-drain operation on the rest of the world to further advance the USA. Only the most highly skilled and qualified immigrants (and possibly their families) will be allowed to immigrate, and then be given green cards after they've proved themselves (no criminal or espionage suspicions/charges, evidence of competence).

I'm the product of immigrants who emigrated to this country and did their Goddamn best to make their fortunes as opposed to their origin countries that would have left them in the fields to labor. Let's bring this back.
