What we are witnessing reminds me very much of August, 1914, whereby Europe went insane and decided to fight one of the most meaningless wars in all of human history. It is also very similar to the late 1930s which culminated in Hitler's attack on Poland in early September of 1939.

(Hitler wasn't alone in attacking Poland. Our eventual "ally" Stalin also attacked in a deal to divide Poland. Great Britain and France both had a 'war guarantee agreement' with Poland. Why it was that they declared war only on Germany remains one of those 'mysteries' that no one likes to think or talk about).

It's not that I don't simply disagree, I don't understand.

When I was a student, I was obsessive about understanding everything I was taught. It wasn't enough to know that the derivative of x^2 was 2x, I had to know why it was, what a derivative was, what use it had, how it was used. I had to know the thinking of the person that introduced it.

In the same way I needed to understand how people thought, how they drew their conclusions, why they thought this war was good or bad, or whatever. What I have finally come to is the horrific conclusion is that they don't think at all. They just believe that x^2 is 2x, but they also believe "Russia attacked Ukraine for no reason at all", and I don't mind that too much, what hurts me, is that even when they find out it's not true, they aren't even bothered by the fact that they were part of the support for a giant mass murder which they could have prevented, and were stopped preventing, because they didn't know, and they were lied to.

How can they be so flippant?

I don't know if Gaza really amounts to a genocide, but it's horrific, and it will come to light in time. What pains me, is that the people who argued for it, were "tricked"(?) into supporting it, won't even be slightly bothered they did, and the same mistake will be made again. I'm not well adjusted at all to this insane society. Children are starving to death. World Kitchen Aid was purposely bombed. I heard the most horrific story of a 6 year old kid being used as bait to kill people coming to help in Gaza, begging for help after her entire family was killed. IDF just mowed the rescuers down, then killed her. Ukraine may have as many as 300,000 dead. I haven't been in this dark of a place for 30 years. I don't understand the cruelty of people, it must be an evolutionary advantage and I've read a lot on evolutionary psychology.

Having a child with my mentality would simply be cruel. I forgive my parents, it was a different time. Perhaps this is the next great crisis in civilization, as people like me drop out. The concept is that life goes through these huge crises, one was going from single cell to multicellular, and there are external factors, like the asteroid strike that they think wiped out the dinosaurs. There's the concept of "where is everybody", the so called Drake Equation which asks why isn't life everywhere? It may be that sociopaths wipe out the non sociopaths then destroy themselves. That's a postulate of why Neanderthals were driven to extinction. They had larger brains, there's good evidence they were teachers to us.

We have to become a better more moral species or we're going to destroy life, and this might be the only place it exists. Now how tragic is that?

I had to find out what an existential crisis was today, sounds like what I'm going through.

Here, I'm going to tell you my greatest fear, that death ISN'T the end.

One of the concepts of karma is that we all experience, EVERY life. We're ALL god. That I will live your life, you will live mine, and the steak you ate, and the grass you mowed over, and the bacteria in your gut - that every single life is connected to a single entity, and that is god.

So the idea is that be kind, because you're just hurting yourself. There's a reverse to it as well, it's you deserved to be hurt, because you hurt yourself but just in another life. A rape victim, or a murder victim, they did it to themselves, nobody is innocent.

In Abrahamic religions, the idea of an afterlife is a perfect bliss. In Dharmic religions, the hope is not to have to go through re-incarnation, not to have existence after death, but to finally rest. They view eternal existence as eternal pain, and I'm starting to adopt that concept.

Being curious has been my undoing.
