Israel setup the attack against itself. They needed an excuse, a pretext, to take over Gaza.

I disagree with this, this help Netanyahu. He won't allow elections. He's a war criminal, like they all are, but he's also just a general criminal. If he leaves office, there's a very good possibility he retires in prison.
Netanyahu is a prime minister, he's picked by his party in a coalition, not directly voted in. Trudeau is the same in Canada. Benny Gantz was PM for about 5 minutes.
It's not the "deep state" that is against Netanyahu, the Israeli people hate him but not because he's killing Palestinians, he's fucking corrupt, and he's using the Israeli hostages as ONLY a pretext for war, and isn't trying to get them back. This conflict with the Palestinians is easy to solve, just create a fucking second state. Just have Israel declare their borders, it doesn't matter what the Palestinians want, just give them whatever Israel wants to give them.
Israel doesn't do this, they intend to take it all. They have had the ability to create a two state solution with NO negotiations for 40+ years now but if they did this 40 years ago, there wouldn't be a ton of settlements in the West Bank. They clearly intend to take everything in time.

Then they could have easily taken Gaza 40 years ago, but they didn't because they wanted to show they were not persecuting the Palestinians.
If they had done this the population of Gaza would have been only 431000 to move instead of 2.4 million.
