They have been expensive here in Florida for a while. They eradicated all of the trees on private property, then developers built over all of the old Florida orange groves. Now all we get is over priced under ripe tasteless sour bitter oranges form South America.

I noticed every time I grab about 5 to 6 Navel oranges. I end up paying 7 to 8 dollars when I look at the receipt later.

I'll have to try that air compressor trick on a Cutie or Tangerine. I don't think that will work on a Valencia or the Navel varieties they grow in South America.
The Navel Oranges from Florida and California the peel used to practically slip off with little persuasion. That's not the case these days. .

If that was a reliable way to remove the skin, that would be great.

The reason orange juice has that acidic flavor is most orange juice is made by grinding the entire fruit, including the skin. It ruins the flavor. Real orange juice is far better than the stuff you buy either frozen or in a bottle.

But they look pretty...For the american consumer, it's far more important how fruit looks than how it tastes
