I saw a clip of some dimbeau talking to Tim Cook about the goggles.
Paraphrasing: 'Aren't they too expensive for many (black, illegal, losers) people?"
edit: the goggles cost $3500.
Funny the media liberals don't complain that crack is expensive, or pedicures, or Nike Jordans.

The goggles are not really expensive compared to previous Apple products.
The original 128K Macintosh cost $7,000 in today's dollars.

I hope Apple sells the shit out of them and my dividends double; I need a nurse to put a little umbrella in my drink at the beach in Baja or Florida.

"Coffee is for closers!"

Apple products aren't expensive; they just cost more than some people can afford.

Besides that they look like snowboarding goggles. The dork factor is off the charts.

Yes, an "eye mullet."

If Google Glass didn't take off then Vision Pro wont for the same drawbacks and reasons.

Google Glass tried to make it look as close to regular glasses. And just watch kids play on an Oculus. They give no shits how dorky it is. The market would be 10-35 year olds. Basically mom and dad buying it to distract their kids so they don't have to pay a babysitter.

I just learned about this from this thread. Hadn't heard about it. I actually think it will be successful. I won't get it, but it will obviously integrate with the Apple ecosystem so out of the gate they probably have 50M potential sales. Everyone thought the watch would fail. It didn't. I'm not a fan boy, but if it works it works. Risky I suppose.

Love or hate Apple, I've had ZERO issues with any product. Intuitive. Doesn't get hacked, at least for me over a decade plus. Expensive, but I haven't had to go to Geek Squad or some other service to fix anything. Not having to troubleshoot anything. Early 2000's was a shit show of shit. 2007 iPhone comes out and they sucked me in. Everything works 100% of the time and now across different devices. I know there's cheaper ways, but time is money as well. I don't want to be dicking around with computers and devices not working for my needs.

The VR stuff will be big someday. I’ve used the Oculus which belongs to my son for a game or two just to see how it looks. And I’ve also used the BigScreen app on it to watch a couple movies with my friend from Montana and a few other people. It does feel somewhat like you’re sharing a private theater with your friends to watch a movie. I just don’t like the blurry peripheral vision on the oculus. And it’s heavy and uncomfortable to wear for any length of time.
Maybe the Apple goggles will be better in that way.
How much do they cost? OP never bothered to say.

$3,500

I should also note that the goggles will run any app that runs on the iPad Pro or iPhone. If that matters.

Reviewer felt it was slightly heavier than the occulus but in terms of visual and sound it was far superior.

All of this running away from reality through computers, phones and VR headsets is really working out great for society.
8   clambo   2023 Jun 7, 9:02am

They will be popular with those who spend considerable time on Zoom video calls or similar.

If I could watch a movie on them I might try them.

Edit: It actually has huge computing power; it has the same chip in it as the Macbooks.

They will get lighter, more capable, and less expensive although not cheap of course.

I can imagine you can wear them and use a bluetooth keyboard and even use it like a laptop if you don't get eye strain from it.

Eye doctors are fucking loving it though. By the time kids turn 30 they're vision will be so fucked... $$$$$. If you have a teenager, tell them to be an optometrist.

I used the kids Oculus. It was cool. Only used it once. I don't have time for that shit. Still have buddies that play video and computer games. I don't get how they do it. It's a worse addiction than porn. Once you get off the game is over. I have buddies playing Call of Duty and shit like that form 9pm to 2am. I just call them retards. If you're willing to put in 5 hours of gaming, maybe do something productive?

For as long as you are going to use it to shoot a load watching VR porn, I don't see that alone causing any eye issues.
11   Ceffer   2023 Jun 7, 4:19pm

I got the newest Sony virtual reality headset for gaming with Playstation 5. It is quite good. The VR I tried (Horizon Zero VR) was very impressive, with robot dinosaurs lumbering over and you could hear them thump and look up to them. It has a huge standard screen for regular games and watching TV and movies. I like them for what they are intended to do.

For $3500, they better include a virtual whorehouse with an artificial, throbbing vagina and 360 degree Caligulan raptures. These prices will come down I am sure. The Sony device was $600, which gamers thought was high.

Apple is all about fag cuck electronic fashion, now, so I suppose the price tag is for chic that the peasantry can't afford.
12   richwicks   2023 Jun 7, 8:26pm

We learned long ago that if you have to put on glasses, it won't be taken up by the public. That's why you don't have a 3d television.

VR isn't going to take off, this won't either.

You can get a pair of goggles to hold your phone with some cheap plastic lenses to give you a 3d experience with your phone. $10.

https://www.amazon.com/Cardboard-Virtual-Headset-Comfortable-Smartphones/dp/B07G6YMC63

Who wants it?

NOBODY wants it. Fuckerberg just screwed his company with stupid Meta which was all about VR. Fucking intelligence scumbag failed on that one. We're never going to do VR. People will PLAY with this, but it's too intrusive. People hate it.

This will be probably more popular than the Apple Lisa - but not much more.

There's this obsession with VR, I know directly, nobody wants it. It's nauseating, it's uncomfortable, and it divides you entirely from reality. People THINK they want this, until they try it. I've tried it, it's not for most people.

Tried it once. It was fun. I don't have time for that shit though. I'd rather dick around here, work or do house projects in my free time. Hell golfed yesterday.

I gave up all video games after high school. It's a mindless and frankly expensive and mind numbing habit/addiction.
14   RC2006   2023 Jun 8, 7:12am

I always thought the augmented reality route would be cool for work. Like pulling up schematics and diagrams to keep my hands free or working with support. But not sure about regular consumer stuff, so far VR has still been a disappointment.

16   clambo   2023 Jun 8, 8:29am

It's not going to be as popular with video game players as others.
Doctors may be reading MRIs and CAT scans with them, others videoconferencing with them, others video editing, architects designing and other uses I can't think of.
These goggles are a MacBook pro inside.

Totally agree seems like more of a work tool. Not sure companies will adopt it. It would be so cool if I could run test instruments through something like this while I'm working on something but that is so far out this product is not it and the integration does not exist yet.

Did not Microsoft have a virtual room type app they hyped for the Windows 10 release way back when? That was supposed to where be a group of people at various locations could all see the same virtual room with 3D displays of what they were working on. That did not seem to catch on.
19   RC2006   2023 Jun 8, 1:30pm

Yes that's why I think this will flop even more at that price tag. I was really looking foward to the MS one.

Yeah they did. Hololens. It's used in military applications really. It's also tremendously expensive.

When (if?) they can get these down to be as light and as innocuous as a pair of sunglasses, THEN they might be adopted. You'd have to be able to wear them without people knowing what they are. They can't be bulky, they have to be noiseless, and they have to be cheap.

And in case one wonders how Apple came up with the $3,500 price point...

22   clambo   2023 Jun 8, 4:16pm

It's half the price of the original Mac in today's dollars.

Time will tell, but I bet they sell some of them.

Either way I don't care, Apple rules; resistance is futile.

No to argue this too much, but Apple is simply twice as expensive as any competitor and gives you no real advantage in terms of productivity. 20 years ago I would have argued Apple was superior to Windows, but not today.

One of my kids recently bought a second hand iPhone. I was extremely skeptical and did start digging into head to head reviews with Pixel phones. I was shocked to see that the one area the the iPhone came out clearly ahead was processor performance (admittedly, Google cheaped out in the Snapdragon they chose to put in their phone). Apple (through acquisitions, which I documented on Pat.net) has truly become a leader in low power (mobile), high performance (fabless) chip design. Still hard to comprehend when you think about their history...
25   Booger   2023 Jun 8, 5:18pm

Even Hitler thinks it's too expensive:

I won't buy the first one out the gate, but I might buy a subsequent generation or two. First adopters pay the most, are basically beta testers. They claim to have extremely high resolution and can throw huge picture for video. I bet there will be a settling point on price and features at about 2K at some point.

Never buy the first generation of anything. We do our best to find and fix everything, but we are never 100% successful. Yes, early adopters ARE beta testers.

The 2nd generation is the EARLIEST you want to buy. Most bugs (if not all) are removed, chips are cost reduced, and improved, they tend to use less power, they are more reliable.

A lot of people spend a lot of money on first-person games. Maybe, by the time we get to version 2 at $2200 it'll become popular.

Apple computers aren't so expensive compared to the Windows stuff out there.
Brandsmart a few weeks ago had a MacBook air for $800.

My pet peeve is why is it called "Pro"?
They're calling all kinds of stuff "pro" lately, like calling hotels "5 star".

Haha. It will be a lab technician that has worked on a dozen boards reflowing them giving you heart surgery as they are given instructions step by step.

Look at how wonderful those automated phone systems are, now that you don't need to deal with operators. Isn't it better?

Technology doesn't always improve things. It always has the CAPACITY to improve things, but what it really does, is make things cheaper. We'd be in wonder world if ONLY technology was used to help people, instead of replace them. Imagine having the same job an account did in 1960, but NOW you have a computer to work with - you have exactly the same workload as somebody that worked as an account in 1960 did. Your day would be 30 minutes at the office.

Do you know what George Jetson's job was? He pushed a button, and his workweek by his slave driver boss Mr. Spacely was 1 hour a day, two days a week.

The world of the future is a little sinister. In one of the cross over episodes between the Jetson's and the Flintstones, you discover that none of the family knew was "grass" was because presumably, the Earth's ecosystem had largely if not entirely been destroyed. That's why all their homes were in the clouds, the ground was deadly.

That is a bit dark for two lighthearted comedies that basically satirized 1960s working class life.

Almost everything back then snuck in some satire and social commentary into what they were doing. Simpsons used to do this all the time.
