I'm not sure if its true, but some suspect covid is spreading really rapidly in china. Could also be more covidian fear mongering, or might be true.

China estimates 250mn people have caught Covid in 20 days

Chinese officials estimate about 250mn people, or 18 per cent of the population, were infected with Covid-19 in the first 20 days of December, as Beijing abruptly dismantled restrictions that had contained the disease for almost three years.

The estimates — including 37mn people, or 2.6 per cent of the population, who were infected on Tuesday alone — were revealed by Sun Yang, a deputy director of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in a Wednesday health briefing, said two people familiar with the matter.

Sun said the rate of Covid’s spread in the country was still rising and estimated that more than half of the population in Beijing and Sichuan were already infected, the people briefed on the meeting said.

The explosion in cases followed Beijing’s decision this month to abandon its zero-Covid policy, which kept the virus at bay through mass testing, mandatory quarantine and draconian lockdowns.

Sun’s figures, which were provided in a closed-door meeting, contrast with data put out by the National Health Commission, which reported 62,592 symptomatic Covid cases over the same period. Last week, China stopped trying to tally the total number of infections after authorities curtailed Covid testing.

The longer you isolate people, the more and the faster they will catch a respiratory virus once out of isolation.

I'll speculate a bit

China switched tactics from lockdowns designed to slow / contain it, and when they realized they had to abandon that plan, they switched to plan B where they intentionally infected people in mass to get the country through covid as quickly as possible so things only need to shut down for a short period of time. 250M in 3 weeks, and 37M in a single day sounds incredible. Maybe covid can spread this fast on its own, but such a rate of spread smells intentional IMO.

True, but China lied about having very few cases before, so maybe they are now lying about having so many. Not sure why.

Or maybe we're not really getting any news out of China at all, but only news from Western outlets like ft.com.

Their official number is 62k cases over this time period. The 250M is "leaked info" which supposedly came from an estimate done by chinese officials. So theyre still lying / under reporting.

Most importantly, the people are happy; all these protests have finally payed off.

That sounds like a lot. If even 1% of 250 MM needed medical care, that would overwhelm the medical system and we would be hearing about that.

The Chinese people had to get to the point where they would rather die fighting their government than live under its tyranny. Only then did they really get serious about protesting.

This is a good lesson for America. We are living under the most atrocious tyranny right now, where the FBI persecutes and imprisons political dissenters and protects criminals like Hunter, where we have obviously rigged elections, and worst of all, where we let the government mandate the injection of children with a poison to "protect" them against a disease which has literally zero chance of harming them. (California schools, for example.) We need to get more serious about protesting over here.

Pretty sure my SIL has it and has stayed over for two nights. No point in testing since we all just got it. I'm noticing another anecdotal thing. Pot smokers (not edible) seem to be harder hit by the virus. She sounds like shit.

Obviously smoking pot influences the lungs, but the people I know that habitually smoke it get hit harder by covid. Smoked tonight, but I'm trying to stick to edibles.

Fact is the Chinese made a massive mistake doing a legit hard lockdown. It's not a pleasant flu, but it's really not that bad in hindsight.
