Global traffic now will be rerouted around Cape of Good Hope, adding 40% to voyage distance (and even more to cost)

Because of the shit mentioned in the OP, duh. Trying to hamper IDF's effort to eradicate the fucks is counter-productive. The US has cared for freedom of navigation and enforced it since ... let's see.... 1801? This time we don't even need to do anything - just let IDF do their job.
