BABA price at IPO in 2014 was $93. Its all time high was $203 about a year ago. It is now at $89 with a PE of 26.

I don't trust American Depository Receipt (ADR) stocks like BABA or any company from China.

I would. Capitalist communism doesn't sell as well as air water. It is an oxymoron.

Last time I check I can't insult the dear leader in China without creating possibly an international incident. I can insult the leader in the US and no one cares. In the US there is respect for property rights and life.

Hong Kong listed companies might be ok since they were British ruled for a while...be interesting to look at that data.

I'm going to have to reply in the affirmative here. My bet on the rise of China tech via MCHI is about 25% below my entry. I'm watching this Pelosi thing and feeling like a Taiwan invasion has moved from impossible to unlikely to maybe. Any kinetic conflict with China will put MCHI at zero.

I'm looking to exit that position this week. I still have VWO and am wondering what to do about that. There is a lot of China exposure in it.

BTW I bought BABA on it's IPO day and continued to buy as it dropped below $70. I sold enough when it crossed over $200 to make the remaining shares free to me but I wasn't able to time the peak and sold the rest on the way down with the last being in the $1-teens. I made a nice profit but at one point I thought I was going to retire amazon rich, so even with a profit I am dissapoint. I remember being bitter on Amazon in 2014 (because I never bought it) when BABA IPO'd - I'm pretty sure that at that point Amazon had not yet turned an annual profit. I thought Amazon's growth was played out so I put my chips on BABA instead. Compare the charts - that's why I'm not a stock picker.

I was looking to buy some BABA for my small trading account, but maybe I'll just buy some call options instead. Like said above, if there's any serious conflict between the us and chyna, ADRs and the like will totally crash. I think long term BABA the company will be worth a lot more if they can get past the chyna lockdowns and tech scrutiny, but an American could easily lose all their money on the path there.

If pelosi does goto taiwan... I think chyna will retaliate in some non-trivial way. They know we dont want war right now due to russia, and I think that advantage is part of the reason theyre standing so strongly on taiwan - they want to take advantage of the situation. But I suppose we want to go there to make a stand and delay chynas absorption of taiwan, which would screw us badly via the chip supply. We need to hurry and mitigate our dependence.

Dead on, Hircus! If we think chip shortages are tough now, wait until the Chinese control Taiwanese chip fabs. Also, National Security is at risk: you think the Chinese won't put backdoors and other shit into chips when they control production? That would be counter to all Communist revolutionary doctrine.

The Chinese financial system consists of grifters and suckers.

If you buy a security from them, you’re the sucker.

I’m a sucker; I bought some shares of BABA at the suggestion of a former girlfriend from Shanghai.

I’m only about 3.5 grand underwater.

Moral: never take financial advice from a female.

She did have other worthwhile talents however.

I had shares in SBER and YNDX, but Biden has confiscated them and put them in "an escrow account" with no clear indication of when or if I get them back.

It's just theft, but then, compared to the Biden crime family's other escapades, like selling out the highest office in the US to China and murdering a million people with vaxx mandates, mere theft is nothing.

Except it wasn't Biden.

I once got a bunch of Chicom company stock through some weird "reverse merger" or some baloney like that. Sold it the very next day. Don't want anything to do with these fucks.
