My commentary, not from the article. This is insane. That entire region is going to be fucked, especially if the Tetons got hit too. There are winter activities (last winter sucked), but most businesses get their revenue during the summer months from Jackson, WY up to Bozeman, MT. Many are road trippers and can just cancel the trip or go elsewhere.

Montana is kind of a like a 2nd or 3rd home for me. I'm out there at least once or twice a year. This is going to fuck up a ton of small businesses. Hopefully they can fix it quick, but some of the damage I've seen is bad. Northeast entrance likely closed for the year. Entire park shut down now.

I know most you guys are CA people, but if Yosemite closes down for fires you can drive 3-4 hours in any direction and still see something cool. Anything else that's as cool(ish) as Yellowstone is 6 hours away. It's an extremely unique place on the planet. Fortunately my buddies out there mostly don't rely on tourist. One kind of does and I'm chatting with him now. Rereading this I feel Ohomen. lol.

No shit. That sucks.

The snowmelt run off could have made it much worse. I didn't snowboard out there this year because they weren't getting much snow. I've boarded Big Sky with 50" base and 200" base. If they had gotten more snow I could see the entire park being shut down for the entire summer.

We all know the climate changers will come out on this one. There's a reason insurance companies have 100 year flood plain maps. It's not because of climate change. Shit happens. I just hope they can make the changes/repairs quickly. Yellowstone was one of my first NP visits as a kid. It was awesome. I hate to think kids are going to miss out on that this summer. It's an easy road trip, generally cheap (not now #gas) West of the Mississippi.
