I’m a little surprised that the slightly narrower Toyota Hilux costs so much less than the Tacoma.
The base model is about $20,000 new, 4 cylinder gasoline engine.
The one I like more is a 4x4 that comes with a 4 cylinder Diesel engine, no gasoline powered option.
The 4x4 costs about $26,000, what a deal.
Diesel fuel is available at all gasoline stations in Baja California Sur, so filling up isn’t a problem.
The towing capacity is much more with the Diesel engine, in case I want to get a boat.

With today's gas prices, I like the Ford Maverick. That said, Car and Driver is a bit merciless in this review. Here's the positives...
Who knew that the secret to making a hybrid vehicle cool is to add a pickup bed?
The Maverick's $21,490 base price is low enough to qualify it as one of the cheapest vehicles on sale today.
While the Maverick posts respectable performance numbers, its real value lies in its fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates that the hybrid powertrain is good for 42 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, big boosts over the 23/30 city/highway figures earned by the front-wheel-drive nonhybrid variant.

They are cheaper because they don't have all the crap now required to sell a passenger vehicle in the US of A: stuff like rear view cameras, blind spot monitors, lane departure alerts, auto braking, etc.

Here’s Why The Toyota Hilux Is Banned In The US
Despite all of that, the Toyota Hilux disappeared from the North American market in 1995. Some of the reasons behind Toyota's decision to pull the Hilux out of North America may have to do with emission and safety standards. Now, Toyota wasn't manufacturing the Hilux in the US anymore and replaced it with a new model for the American buyers: the Toyota Tacoma.

Isuzu D-Max I had as my diving runabout in Bonaire is $15K. Had everything I needed and nothing I didn't. Sat 6 in the crew cab, held plenty of tanks for a whole day of diving for 4 people. They make them in Thailand for "less developed" markets.
