I've never understood Facbook. I'm mean I get the platform but why did it grow so far so fast? It's not like it was a novel idea. We had MySpace. Same premise as I recall.

This Zuckerberg kid goes from sharing a few photos to having one of the largest media empires on the planet..

A Havard dropout who was majoring in Computer Science and Psychology. Clearly he was bright and the Ivy league can get you connections but is there something more sinister here?

Could he be a secret deep state asset, and the whole point of his social network was to glean data for the ever expanding security state?

Now the highest levels of government is openly colluding with Facebook to control the narrative and flow of information. Where does it stop?

Coincidence? I think not.

It's better to be late to the party then never arrive at the party. Facebook was a project of DARPA and was handed to ZuckFuck to be it's nominal CEO. Apparently it has always been an intelligence trap for gullible humans.

Use the concept of 'friendship' to get people to expose their social patterns and sucker punch themselves for government tracking.

Now I feel bad I didn't bring a covered dish to share.

Covered dish? Are you somebody's mom? This Patnet is an ugly all male production - if we have a party we want you to bring beer.

Yes. Absolutely.

It's presented as the only place you can go unless you're a racist. There were articles 15 years ago that seriously were entitled "If you're not on Facebook, are you a terrorist?" - no kidding.

And it's common knowledge in Silicon Valley what Facebook is. Why do you think they have slanted standards, keep "accidentally" exposing information you mark private, and keep having "break-ins"?

We are NOT this incompetent, but we can pretend to be. Facebook is a data collection site, and if any past information in there is useful to be used against you, it will be used against you if you block their path even accidentally.

There's no doubt here, but the wider people people just won't believe it. I've known that for 10 years now. Anything you post to (nearly) any website, will be used to exploit you. I hope this is the exception. Patrick might be perfectly honorable now, and intends to be forever, but he can be put 2 million dollars in debt with a way out. I keep a low profile for this reason - not as low as I once did, I'd be interested in meeting my enemy at some point. Age is parallel with courage.

@Patrick, I'm surprised you had the balls to stand up - but did you intend to do that?

Fine. I can bring that too. I homebrew on the side.

But back to the point at hand... if FB was DARPA funded...

@ Richwicks. I've met Patrick. Seems like a normal guy. Calls them like he sees them.

NPR was peddling that shit incessantly very early on. Seemed odd for a "public" radio. They never peddled like that any other private company before or after.

I've met him as well, but I've also seen people broken. No offense to him. I'm 50, I can stand up now, but at 35 - no. When you have less time, you have more courage.

I used the FB MSGR platform to communicate with distant relatives in a distant country that has an authoritarian regime.

I made a joke about our chats being under surveillance. That joke was in the middle of a chat. The joke was not "delivered", the only undelivered remark in that chat.

With a different person in that city, well, the person on the other end liked to chat about politics that were local to his area. Those chats intermittently had "undelivered" remarks by both him and me.

Doubt it, they do though sell out all the time. Zuckerberg is just asshole.

Stand up in what way?

I assure you that this site is not collecting data on anyone anyway.

If I had made a website that was nationally popular, I would suspect I would be under surveillance.

This is what I mean by standing up. This site is I think opposes the narrative generally. You're visible to the establishment. I'm not.

Does that sound like anyone else we know? Hint: He wants to vaccinate the WHOLE world despite how he killed and maimed all of those kids in India and Africa.

Mark Zuckerberg’s dad said he could go to Harvard or have a McDonald’s franchise

Mark Zuckerberg famously started Facebook in his Harvard University dorm.

But before he even went to college, Zuckerberg’s father Edward offered his son an alternative — a future as a McDonald’s franchise owner.

“My dad, funny enough, right before each of us went to college offered us the options of going to college or like investing in a franchise and running it,” sister Randi Zuckerberg told CNN Business’ Laurie Segall of her dad’s offer to his son and each of his three daughters.

Of course, Zuckerberg chose Harvard — and then dropped out.

“I think [my parents] were like ‘Okay, you probably should have taken the McDonald’s franchise money if you wanted a business. But, okay, this might be a second good choice,’” Randi told CNN.

Another "rags to riches" story.

Bill Gates.

Even Bezos went to Princeton but at least he graduated. Granted Ivy league can pick and choose who gets in and their applicant pool is typically smarter than the average person.

But at least he's promoting commerce. Even Gates products are useful and have business applications.

Facebook has little if any redeeming social value in my view. Sure it helps people communicate, but at what cost?

Interesting! Some programs aren't really cancelled, they just take a new pathway.

At first it was just about opposing the narrative that it's always a good idea to buy a house at whatever price they ask.

But I think I beat that issue to death, and I personally don't care about it anymore.

Now it's about all those other ways I feel that our owners are seeking more power and wealth at our expense.

No, Facebook is a model of the population, or at least that is what it's assumed to be.

You have all these idiots complaining about censorship on it, and arbitrary restrictions that are politically motivated. Zuckerberg has lied, repeatedly, to congress under oath - perjury, nothing happens to him for doing that. It's obvious what Facebook is.

All the smart people left it, years ago. I was on it, for a few months to comment on news articles under an alias. I abandoned it when I realized my comments were deleted anyhow, so there was no point on being on it at all for me. Propaganda outlets don't allow comments at all now, so there's no point whatsoever. Disqus is also heavily censored and monitored.

Advertorials.
I made a Social network, I was trying to get an angel investor to back before Twitter and Facebook took off. I probably gave them the idea. My idea was raise a couple million dollars, and then pay CNN, FOX and few other big networks, to create a commercial in the form of a Story on the network. Have them say, "The fastest growing website on the internet" tell them 5 million signing up everyday. Even though at the time, only the developers, their friends, and extended family had even ever heard of it.

It's how all of them got big. Pay the cable news to lie about how big, popular, and traffic the site gets.

I backed off my Social media concept, when I saw how abused these systems are, and they are a killer of privacy and freedom.
I also thought one of the big ones was going to cover what I was doing, but they never did. I'm thinking about starting my site back up, and promoting it, as a Conservative media for Conservative people who have been depatformed.

Here's an idea I'll never develop.

Make the site, and whenever a video is mentioned, make a separate page with a commenting section underneath it with an inline link to the video.

I wouldn't promote it as a "Conservative" site either - but simply a gathering place for discussion.
