The ebbing power of the Media

Just wanted to say that there is one major development these past few years, and that is now about half the Public clearly gives no fucks about what the Media thinks, period.

They went whole hog, full bore, no holds barred on many issues recently, particularly Trump and CRT and Masks/WuFlu. Still half the country doesn't believe their propaganda wave. Despite "bipartisan support' from both the Democrats and the Ahoy Cruise Crew. Not to mention having most major corporations AND all academia AND half the religious institutions from the Jesuits to the Episcopalian Church.

Congrats America.

Where many are desperate, I see a Great Awakening that will make the Tea Party and the Moral Majority look like a droplet in the Ocean.

What do you mean "still"?

8 years ago, if I said "the news media, all of it, is complete bullshit" - at least 90% of people around me would have said I'm a paranoid nut.

The next hurdle to get over it to get people to understand that media is just as honest, and truthful as they have been for the last 20 years. They've not changed - you have - for the better.

The media really was lying about Syria and peddling propaganda. And Libya. And Ukraine. And Iraq. I really do appreciate Trump making them pull out all the stops. He's done what I dreamed of doing for 20 years - show that the US doesn't really have a news media, but a very sophisticated propaganda system which was nearly universally accepted as "free press".

The proof that the media is irrelevant is in 2016 the American voters ignored it and elected Donald Trump the first time, and repeated it in 2020.

It wasn't as blatant though. The first blatant lie without any sophisticated covet up was Iraqs wmd, and it may have started the no fucks given propaganda. Previously they at least tried to package it so it was more subtle. Also the news used to be read "activist" style during the world wars, then it started a more neutral tone for many decades and now we're back full on activist style propaganda a la "it's your patriotic duty to get vaxxed and do this and that...".

During the whole Iraq thing, Jeanine Garofalo and Meathead and Tom Hayden were still invited on CNN or Fox to give the other side, and sometimes the Anchor would say "Well our National Debt is a good point, Meathead. Neocon, how would you address the financing problem?" "Well, Andrea, Iraq's oil will pay for the war" (Bitter laugh in hindsight).

So while the Media was credulous of the WMD bullshit, and it was definitely more biased than ever, it wasn't completely one-sided aggressive propaganda without end.

I'd say the modern media one-sided wave began with the Obama Administration, which was given uncritical support. Every facet of his non-transparent, reclusive Administration despite his promise to the contrary, was supported, including his spying on Journalists.

However, the Media during Obama was mostly Sins of Omission and lack of criticism rather than 24-7-365 Aggressive Attack on his enemies, pushing Critical Race Theory, Black Lives Matter, etc.

The Aggressive excessive propaganda in the Media began a few weeks after Trump came down the Elevator in 2015.

While Garofalo or Meathead were invited on Network TV on an almost nightly basis to give an alternate take on the Iraq War, you never would see Ted Nugent or James Woods on CNN to defend ANYTHING about Trump.
