Teachers unions are the primary driver of systemic racism. Making sure kids don’t get an education and don’t get a choice of a different school. The poorer the kids are the worst they are affected and the less education they receive. This means that poor kids get poor educations and stay poor for their lives. If they don’t just drop out, join gangs, and wind up dead at a young age.

Now the teachers unions have managed to also fuck over working parents. People with jobs are expected to quit them to stay home with the kids and homeschool them. Regardless of their budgets of course. The only thing that matters to the teachers is that they get to stay home and still get paid.
Now the LA Unified School District has authorized free daycare for teachers who are parents, so they have someplace other than home (which is where they will be) to send their rug rats so they won’t have to care for them while “teaching online” everyone else’s kids who don’t get free day care.

In my neighborhood there are several gyms which have opened as daycare/schools able to provide daycare for school aged kids with staff who can help the kids with their online lessons. This costs $155-200/week and goes until 3PM same as a regular school day. Working parents who can’t be home with their kids to help them are expected to shell out $650-800/month per kid to “educate” their kids while public schools we all pay for are shuttered because teachers are scared of Covid. But NOT too scared to send their own kids to day cares as long as the school district pays for that!

Fuck teachers unions. Seriously.

It sucks to have a kid with allergies

"He's coughing and sneezing"
"It's the pollen"
"Nooo, they're all gonna laugh at you! Get him out of here. OMG before we all DIE of COVID! How could you!"

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orange County teacher Kathryn Hammond is pleased a judge ruled in her favor.

She’s one of the teachers suing the Florida Department of Education for mandating school districts to resume in-person classes. The judge ruled the mandate is unconstitutional.

“It was a big fight and this is a big local win for teachers and local school boards,” Hammond said. “This gives us a bit of an opportunity to now focus on the local issues that we have and how to improve the school situation at the local level.”

“It was an absolute sign of respect for the profession, for what teachers do and caring for their safety and well-being and acknowledging that they have the right to safe and healthy working conditions,” said Wendy Doromal, president of the Orange County Classroom Teachers Association.

But the fight is far from over. The Florida Department of Education is appealing the ruling, which automatically puts a stay on the judge’s injunction. That means until the appeal process runs its course, the state’s order remains in effect.

We asked our local teachers union president: Why keep fighting if it could take months to get a final ruling?

“Let me tell you why the fight is worth it because lives are worth the fight, because people’s health are worth a fight, because health and lives should trump economics and political agendas,” Doromal said.

The state’s fight is being funded by taxpayers. The department of education confirms more than $600,000 in legal fees have already been spent. An attorney in the case says the appeals process could cost the state the same if not more.

“That money could have gone to schools; it could have gone to people who are suffering because they can’t get their unemployment benefits because of a terrible state system; it could have gone to people being evicted,” Doromal said.

Public employees should not be allowed to unionize at all.

As a public employee myself--a public school teacher--I have the right to say that despite what many of my colleagues believe, we as public employees should not have the right to unionize. I also believe that public teachers should by law be prohibited from striking (actually, no public employee should be allowed to strike). No other than Franklin Delano Roosevelt himself said he didn't believe government employees should be permitted to unionize. He was right.

Some might say I'm hurting myself by daring to speak out against my own interests. Hogwash. I simply am smart enough and unselfish enough to realize that I hold a unique position as a taxpayer-paid employee. I am presently a member of a teacher's union and while in the business world was a member of several unions, from the CWA and IBEW to the Teamsters to the SEIU. (Only the Teamsters did I like or respect, FWIW.)

I'm sorry, fellow teachers, but our jobs are vastly different from private sector jobs. We are paid by the taxpayers, every day citizens. As such, we owe them a duty to perform our jobs, which aren't the same as private sector jobs. When we sluff off on the job, when we strike, we cause greater harm to the public than does a striking UPS plant or a striking Caterpillar plant or a striking UAW plant.

Every person in NYC who protested budget cuts--as if no one in the private sector is experiencing budget cuts, those NYC employee bastards--should be fired. Immediately. Fire every damn one of them and forever forbid them from holding a public sector job again.

In Germany school teachers are well paid and well pensioned, mostly tenured federal workers. But that comes at the price of not being able to unionize/strike. Federal employees are prohibited from going on strike.

My daughter is ahead in math n doing algebra 2 on her own knows algebra 1 and geometry 1 already. I asked school to place her from algebra 1 to geometry, they said no. Guidance counselor (pronoun she , her hers) , thats how she refers to self, said my daughter will be with older kids and that's not good.

I told them to test her so she doesn't waste whole year learning nothing. They said they can't test algebra 1.

I will talk to principal but teachers are crazy.

+10,000! I've been saying this forever. It makes zero sense. Just set a prevailing wage rate that is set up your state legislature. Allow elected officials to decide what is a fair rate. A local school district shouldn't have the ability to raise my taxes as much as they do and the goal of the union is to raise those taxes as high as possible to line their pockets in the process.

Also allow bad teachers to be fired. How often does a teacher leave a school outside of a spouse needing to relocate or they literally fucked a student? Once you're in, you're in for life if you so choose. A large chunk of people are not good at their jobs or just going through the motions and teachers aren't exempt from that.

Teachers also shouldn't be allowed to get full pensions until they hit social security age (63? can never remember). Also cap wages with COL increases that match previous years inflation. Why do you get paid double at 55 for the same thing you were doing at 30? Make it a living wage of course, but the last two years of my mom's career as a flipping art teacher she was pulling in about 105k. It's my mom, but let's be honest, that's a fucking expensive babysitter watching your 4th grade make shitty art. She should have been making 60-70k tops.

That's not entirely false. They should support her with extra advanced material, but skipping classes can have negative social effects on the kid. Still it should be the kid's and parent's choice after careful explanation and discussion if the kid is simply too good and would otherwise waste a year. Sometimes they have extra classes for the gifted without having to jump a class.

There is no real criteria for reopening California Schools.

My wife teaches at a local community college. They are already discussing online learning in the spring.

What is the end game of all this bullshit?

Mine too. She told me it’s most likely the way it will be done. She’s willing to return to the classroom, but honestly can get more done at home setting up and catering to online classes. Doesn’t miss the commute.

I checked out all of the Pacific Northwest states. After family and I checked out boise we all liked it. It reminded me of CA when I was a kid. Lots of kids playing outside without parents, seemed like a much better environment to grow up in. I also like doing outdoor things and while CA does have some great places everything seems like more a hassle. I have a lot of great memories but gave up on it getting better, the state has really went downhill in my lifetime.

Work wise I'll be taking a big haircut in pay but my wife might not. Taxes and fees are about 40% less.

Ok but what after May? If you’ll recall, the state pushed back the date for paying state taxes to July. I wonder what it looks like through then?

California locked down early and hard and stayed down unlike most states. You’d expect the economic devastation to be far worse here than elsewhere, and indeed that seems to be the case. Estimates of up to 50% of small businesses closed for good. Many of those weren’t going to succeed in the long term, so this could just be considered a fast track of what would have come. But other popular places like Souplantation are gone now for good. That place was always packed. 24 hour fitness is likely gone as well as are many other gyms. If you worked in the entertainment industry, you’ve been unemployed for months, with no end in sight.
If you worked as a server you’re also probably still unemployed. And all the other support industries are hurting as well. It’s been a rough time for Californians, made especially worse by the draconian policies and orders from Newscum. If California winds up dramatically worse off than other states, will we look back with regret?
I doubt it. The elites still have theirs, and are even richer. And the underclass is stupid and bought off with trinkets for the natives.

Recognition that they are killing the Golden Goose doesn't seem to be on their radar much. Public Service Unions become as thuggish as any others, and the militant teachers around Santa Cruz are aggressive apparatchiks.

I do hear some concern at times that the clock is ticking towards pension fund meltdown, but denial is strong. They will have to capture their tax victims faster than the victims can run away, and there is only one logical outcome of that scenario of chasing away your productive base while continuing to exploit and tyrannize them.

I suppose they could pass a law In California that all California state and local government paid pensions will be taxed by California, regardless of where the pensioner resides. But I am sure a California judge would strike this down since it would affect the judge's pension. Therefore it may need to be a California constitutional amendment.

Close. They did just that with all retirees fleeing Cali but Congress passed a law based on interstate commerce that banned it.

True, but a different concept. California wanted to tax all retirees based on how long they worked in California, and this tax pensions at a proportion to time in Ca. I can see how that would be disallowed, but hopefully they can make a case when California itself is supplying the pension.

The answer, is D. Each of them have a bar line over them, labelled S. Why there's a block of "25" underneath C and D, I don't know, it might be an exercise to ignore data that isn't being included in the set?

The question is ambiguous, in that it's not clear if everything under S is included, or if only the first block is included. To add confusion, they call it a "diagram". That can be anything from a graph to a pictorial representation - they have to define what they mean by a "diagram".

Anyhow, this is what you get when you have a federal department of education and your last president got a 60 million dollar bribe for his "next book" they he never wrote after he gave $350 million dollars to Penguin Random House via Pearson Publishing.

Children of the wealthy are going to private schools or even public schools in person because their school boards opened them. Many districts which are wealthy around me are and have been open: Los Alamitos has been open all year, as has Irvine, Newport Beach, and now Huntington Beach. Meanwhile the poorer communities have had schools closed all year with no plans to reopen.
Most of the kids in these poor districts are failing, have problems logging in with substandard technology, have mental health issues and food insecurity, and are confined in small apartments trying to get educated while their parents have to go to their jobs in person. Being essential workers, their parents are being exposed to Covid, which drives up infection numbers for their zip codes, which gives their teacher’s union-dominated school boards justification to keep their local schools closed.
Which ensures that the kids(mostly minority) of the poor and lower middle class are NOT getting an education, or at least not much of one.

And who do we have to thank for this ongoing policy of SYSTEMIC RACISM? Why teachers unions and Democrats!
Thanks for keeping the brown people down you fucks!

Buying votes has a cost. The communities being bought need to wake the fuck up and understand they're being buggy whipped. It's not their fault, but they need to wake up and realize they're the pawn in the chess game. Won't change until that happens. Trump moved the needle, but if they can cheat, it needs to go next level. Not sure what that looks like.

This practice should be banned. If you file a W-2 or 1099, you should have your pension reduced an equal amount if collecting. Make $10k side gigging it, your pension payment drops $10k the next taxable year, or your pension is taxed for that $10k. We need to stop giving money away. It's sick as fuck.
