Hi guys,

Hoping someone can steer me in the right direction.

I’m looking to purchase a Glock19. Nobody, I mean nobody has this in stock in the Bay Area!

With Covid19 and the protests across the country, I’m being told that much of the Glock inventory that was present in gun stores across the Bay is sold out and it’s unlikely that more will be available for 4months+

Does anyone know where I can buy a Glock19 (legally) from a Bay Area gun store today? Anyone have stock?

Thanks

Did you know that fully-functioning replicas of black powder revolvers like ones used in Civil War are not legally considered firearms and can be bought on the Internet and delivered to your front door without all that BG check/registration nonsence? Now you do.

Thanks Eric: Most pre-1899 firearms are also exempt from Federal and most State laws.

Some Mosin-Nogants, Webleys, Remingtons, lever actions, etc. made before 1899. Revolvers and Shotguns, too, not just rifles.

HOWEVER, you need to check the serial numbers because some Enfields, Mosin-Nagants, etc. of the same type were made after 1899. The law only exempts pre-1899 manufactured weapons, not the design itself, so a Mosin made in 1904 doesn't qualify as Antique but a Mosin made in 1897 does, even if same exact model.

Be careful about what you choose, since some ammo hasn't been in production in decades and is very tough to find, like .38 Rimfire for this revolver:

I really like "Cowboy" or "Western" style lever actions. You can refill the tube as you fire, no magazine jam worries, you can get them in pistol calibers (like .357/.38Spec) or Rifle Calibers.

Since most infantry combat happens within 30M and most home encounters under 5M, I like carbines in pistol calibers that can still knock down a deer or communist in longer ranger fighting if TEOTWAKI

The additional advantage is that Leftist prosecutors will have a tougher time convincing a jury that dad/grandpa with his ol' wood stock Western Lever Action is a bad guy, vs. a SUPERTAC MILSPEC KILLEMALL Black Rifle like an AR-15 or bubba'd up SKS. Assault Rifle!

Yesterday - didn't save the link - the media called the driver a "gunman" and the rioter "armed with a rifle" even though that rifle was an AR-15 that the media almost always insists in an "Assault Rifle"

Second lever action, get a Henry.

AK-47 actually, which is usually portrayed as even more eeeeeevil than AR-15. But not this time.

Yes, I was told to expect the background check to take 2x as long as usual... so expecting 20days or so.

So what was your appointment for? Just to fill out the paperwork for the background check?

My store told me they can't start the check until they have the gun in inventory so they can match up serial numbers.

Did you get to see or handle your gun? Did they have you take the Firearms Safety Certificate test?

- I got the FSC back in 2017. It’s good to 2022.

- The appointment was for the background check.

- I pick up the gun after the background check completes.

- During my appointment I paid for the gun and it is being held for me.

I had one of those when I was a kid. I replaced housing with plastic. Pistol grip. It was a paratrooper so short barrel and with the folding stock it was easy to conceal. Nice bayonet with a bleed groove. Easy to get mod plans at the gun show for other things I won't mention.

I killed a lot of bottles with that thing.

No idea what cool stuff you could get for one of those today...

I just heard from Turners Outdoorsman where I put a down-payment on a Glock 19 on July 1. They said they are now getting shipments for Glock 19's ordered in mid-June and that there are 560 Glock 19 orders ahead of me. They are getting batches of 250 every 2 weeks. That is alot of Glock 19 sales for this one store in San Marcos, CA.

They hope to have mine by late August. Then another 10-20 days for the background check.......
155   RC2006   2020 Jul 31, 6:25pm

I wonder how many guns they are moving a month, that a lot of just glock 19s. Gun sales are note even slowing.

@socal what about ammo?

What air rifle should I get to shoot crap in my backyard without alarming the neighbors?

RC2006,

I ordered a CZ 75 9 mm pistol from Turner's in Signal Hill on June 24th and haven't heard anything yet.

As far as ammo, the Big 5 in my town has some .22 LR and .380 auto but nothing in 9 mm. There are no guns left on the rack (except for BB/pellet guns). Whenever I go into Big 5, the one employee who is authorized to conduct firearm/ammo transactions isn't working. I found out that he always works on Fridays and that's also the day they get new ammo shipments in, so I'm just gonna make it a habit of stopping in every Friday. That might be a way to get your hands on 9 mm because I'm sure it doesn't last long once it's put on the shelves.

Umarex Steel Storm. Six shot burst or semi auto:

Really fun to shoot. and relatively easy to load compared to some of the other full auto bb guns.

If you want something quiet search https://www.airgundepot.com/ Excellent service and quick delivery.

A couple classics

They make some that are suppose to be "quiet". If you get a pump one just don't pump it a lot to keep pellet/BB subsonic.

This is why you want to skip the varmint hunter 2000. One pump and it's supersonic with most pellets. It also vibrates worse than a real rifle making it impossible to use a scope.

Will it kill rat? I have a rat problem in my backyard and the fuckers are too smart to be trapped and move to fast to get a good shot with a pellet rifle.

If it doesn't kill the rat it will sting a little and he won't come back.

Somebody modified this one

166   just_passing_through   2020 Aug 3, 9:52pm

I had a problem with a Norwegian rat when I lived in Belmont. I had a badass balcony with all sorts of vegetation. I also had CCD cameras. One day I noticed a rat come out and basically do the back stroke in my basil pot. Then again, and again, and again, every fucking night! So I started with the traps. No worky. Then I tried mounting my airgun with a long string into the living room. Nope, he saw that and dodged it. He even started leaving a single little rat-shit by my sliding glass door before morning. Basically a FU!

Over that time I learned his routine. He always jumped over the cilantro to a bare space before diving into the basil. So I put a yellow sticky trap there (vs. the others) and hung out one night in the living room watching the CCD with my girlfriend.

BINGO!

The fucker got trapped, knocked over a bunch of pots in his 40 second struggle before I got out there and introduced his brains to the weird paved upper level patio I had.

That was a single problem rat though. I suspect if there were others they'd have learned to avoid that.

The gun store has my OD Green Glock 19 and I finished the DOJ paperwork and passed the FSC test this morning. They said I can pick it up next Saturday on 8/29!

The salesmen said that they got a bunch of OD Green Glock 17's in stock now. There are about 30 stores in SoCal if anyone is interested.
168   zzyzzx   2020 Sep 1, 5:03am

I wonder how hard it is to modify one that uses CO2 cartridges to use an external source like in that video.

Picked mine up last Friday. Took 3-months from start to finish.

I picked mine up on Saturday (took 2 months start to finish). I was able to pick up some ammo yesterday and plan on going to the range this afternoon to finally take her for a spin!

No - I am a righty. Both politically and physically.

Still trying to figure out the best way to stage the pistol in the safe I don't want to store it with loaded mags until I get a chance to go to the range today.

I've got a box of 200 rounds to go through this afternoon!

Congrats.

To all new gun owners, plan to practice at least a few times per year to remain familiar and comfortable.

And agreed, if you are right handed, place the gun on the other side.
178   clambo   2020 Sep 1, 2:52pm

Brazil 66, you will love shooting the CZ 75.
I have one in addition to the P01 compact, absolutely awesome gun
A fun thing about Florida is you can buy CZ clones, like TriStar/Canik, which are great guns too.
179   brazil66   2020 Sep 1, 6:57pm

Clambo,

I looked up those clones (Tristar/Canik), but they aren't on the roster of CA approved handguns list (what a surprise). I did see that the Hi Point C9 is on the list. I thought that might a good thing to have in the trunk of my car when I go to work in the hood. I'm still waiting to get a call back from Turner's Outdoorsman telling me they've got my CZ 75. I'll post when I get it so that folks on the thread can see how long it currently takes to get a gun in California.
180   socal2   2020 Sep 1, 7:08pm

I had a great time at the range this afternoon. I fired about 160 rounds and had the whole range practically to myself. Overall, the gun ran great and is very comfortable to shoot and handle IMO. Thank God for the speed loader, it is tough trying to squeeze in the 9th and 10 bullets into the puny California 10 round mags.

Now I have to finish refinancing my house so I can buy more ammo!

181   clambo   2020 Sep 1, 9:51pm

I would not bother with a hi point gun, but everyone has their own tastes.

The lowest I can go on my gun’s coolness is Glock. I have a Glock 42 which is pretty good.

I should sell it in California and buy a replacement in Florida someday when I am a resident there again.
182   AD   2020 Sep 1, 9:58pm

One of the better hand guns for home self defense.

183   just_passing_through   2020 Sep 5, 1:59pm

Just got a new travel gun safe (XXL/combo):

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LW82KT4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It's the only TSA and California approved of that type but it sucks. I had to break it open with pliers to get it to open the first time. I can fit my glock, and extra clip and 2 boxes of 50 rounds in there okay though.

Hitting the range tomorrow. Will be flying back and forth to TX with this so I can shoot with the family!

Made in china is asshole which I didn't notice unfortunately.

extra clip

Now that you are part of the club, I have to encourage you to use the correct nouns. The gun is a magazine fed pistol. Clips are used to charge the magazine. I have never seen a clip used to charge a glock mag. I have seen Maglula speed loaders and highly recommend that you get one.

Enjoy your new purchase. You now get to treat it like a barbie doll by buying accessories for it. I recommend buying a good holster first. Also get some good hollow point ammo to feed it for serious work. Functionally check that the pistol can eat the hollow points and practice with cheap FMJ.

Now that you are part of the club,

Dude, I've had guns my whole life. You're right about the clip-slip. It's just a travel case I bought. Partly posted because it's a piece of shit but all I could get legally in CA to suit my needs.
186   just_passing_through   2020 Sep 5, 5:06pm

Edit: I got rid of my guns when I moved from Texas but later bought again after living in CA for awhile. So there was a gap. Also, I didn't have one before I was 10 lol... No need for a holster here in CA. I'm not carrying it anywhere even though I want to. Too hard to get a permit.
