Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti announced today that all Angelenos, even those without symptoms, can now get tested for COVID-19, at no cost.

"Los Angeles will become the first major city in America to offer wide-scale testing to all of our residents, with or without symptoms," he said in his daily press briefing, adding that those with symptoms wil always have first priority.

The mayor said this policy will start tonight.

Just in time for the standard curve's natural downslope. Great backasswards planning.

By the way, does he have the millions of requisite test kits to back up his promise? This is just more political huff 'n puff.

I'd like to know if my body has the antibodies. I wouldn't be surprised if it did. But I don't know about trusting tests. It's complicated and some may be less reliable than others.

Garcetti is just trying to make the public feel better. Everybody knows Trumpler didn't make enough Tests for anybody in LA to get one.

Or was that yesterday's bullshit story?

I want to see more celebrities fashionably pretending to have Covid and suffering dramatically behind the walls of their mansions with their designer face masks.

Not only can every resident get a test, but he will throw in a ventilator for free too.

"Ventilator" used to be old Chicago gangster slang for a machine gun.

Makes a lot of holes to let air in.

Anyone know why LA County has so many more cases and deaths(proportionally) than ANY of the neighboring counties?

For instance LA County has 3x the population of OC but something like 30x the number of covid related deaths. While not as drastic, the story is the same in San Bernardino, Riverside, Kern, and Ventura counties.

Illegals crammed 20+ into 2-3-bedroom houses?

OccasionalCortex observes- Yup. This is how the US deals with crisis. It does very poorly at first, but then catches up in a way that is practically pure overcompensation.

Or as Winston Churchill once said, “You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing after they have tried everything else.”

OC, SB, and Riverside have the same situation. That’s not it.

LA now extending lockdown, at least until the end of July:
https://theweek.com/speedreads/914108/los-angeles-countys-stayathome-orders-are-expected-extended-least-through-july

It's not written in stone that the county's stay-at-home orders will remain as is for the next three months, but Ferrer said they won't budge unless there's a "dramatic change to the virus and tools at hand." As things stand, the county's fatalities and new infections are rising daily, and testing capacity reportedly remains limited, so change is not considered a likely possibility, the Times reports.

LA's mayor says he will cut off water and power to businesses that don't comply with the coronavirus lockdown

I don't see this happening in the Northeast without some sort of revolt or total disregard. I can maybe understand people with better weather putting up with having their summer ruined, but not here.

Saliva is dripping from the fangs of the public control elements of the Cali Great Socialist Paradise. If there isn't unilateral extra legal press ganging for fees and additional taxes to feed the public coffer maws following shortly, I will be surprised. Hope the tech billionaires are cozy in their skyscrapers and burbs.

Still don’t know why LA County has multiples more deaths and illness from Covid on a per capita basis than anywhere else in California.

Show Biz. All those catastrophe dystopian box office hits, vivid imaginations, and government bribes to keep the fingers weighted on the disaster scales make for a potent combo.
