: I'm not sure why unions would be against it. The unions can work out a deal to have the employers pay the supplemental (on top of the base), but not copays, which would ultimately cost their govt employers less. Win win all around. Same for corporations.
If anything that's where the problem is. Corporate suits are more likely to want expensed gold plated coverage than teachers, cops and such. That is they are far more likely to think they deserve better coverage than everyone else than govt employees.
The unions have been well aware of how hard it is to get the other things they want, when healthcare keeps going up so much. They'be been taking health care cuts in various ways anyway. The writing is on the wall. Something has to give.
This plan has big flaw: The unions -- both private sector and public -- will be against this completely.
