Here's the thing, the idea of parallel dimensions & multiverses is a great one.

But where I get annoyed is that the main protagonist, or antihero, is some love sick puppy who's trying to find his dead/lost wife.

Now, here I am, watching a movie about a Columbia University physics grad student/postdoc, who supposedly had a 'perfect wife' working in heathcare, but at the same time is a total & complete nerd who doesn't leave the Pupin labs at CU. Trust me, I've been to that facility. Most guys there can only get ugly skanks or get to jerk off as the cuter ladies at Columbia, NYU, City College, Hunter, etc, see them as a bunch of losers.

* Hint: Not Wall Street, management consulting, nor med school bound.

And yes, this includes the supposed perfect wife who's probably a resident at Mt Sinai medical center, banging other doctors, administrators, or even ambulance drivers who're more fun than this this guy.

You see, in my world, this is what a guy really wants and that's to play with some tits!

And then afterwards, get back to running some experiments.

I agree. It should have been about some robo-succubus he builds and unleashes on his enemies. Now that would be cool.

Nothing worse than having your regular sperm dump mowed out from under you, then having to return to hopeless incel status. No wonder the dweeb was so low budget traumatized.

Yes, that's one way of looking at it, however, I believe that the film tried to create this faux view of the world that some Columbia University physicist dorks could in fact, have attractive GFs/wives, even ones in a high paying heathcare field, without working on Wall St, management consulting, law, medicine, or some other lucrative profession.

So I believe that from the start, it was a false premise. This guy probably had a GF/wife who looked like the following ...

and thus, losing her, made him into a raving lunatic because in effect, no chick at Columbia would give him a 2nd date. And now, he's stuck having to fight the space-time continuum instead of flying to Thailand to fuck gorgeous Southeast Asian babes!

Coulda been a trust fund kid, like, when you see the 10 gal with the 2.5 guy and wonder what's up. Light Bulb: "Oh, it's DADDY'S money and power!"

The Hollywood and Media specialty is having beautiful, horny women make the first move with the men, as if they are bereft of dates or prospects. Young attractive women from 15 to 25 (and beyond if they stay hot) are besieged by men of all ages and a seeming endless supply of orbiting wallet hopefuls. It's why the shit test exists, because they can get away with it.

Of course, in TV and the movies, the beauties are alone and unfulfilled to the point that they have to grab the nearest loser for zipless sex. Yeah, right.

Yes, this would work and thus, the writers could incorporate it into the story like having the prof mention that "the kid's uncle really helped the physics dept improve their synchrotron". And in effect, justify the entire setup as he'd be able to meetup with his wife at places like Osteria on the Upper West side just a few blocks from Columbia ... not overpriced but clearly not on a grad student's budget.

I think this is also a part of the whole victimhood culture where women don't choose bad boys but instead, are fooled by 'em. And so the idea is to shame regular men for not pursuing women who're more or less, stringing 'em along until their banker on the white horse shows up.

I remember first seeing this in the movie 'Pi', where another Columbia math loser graduate student was the love interest of a pretty Indian/South Asian woman living nearby, in some rundown pre-gentrified Chinatown apartment & this was a bozo with no friends at all, who eventually drilled a hole in his head.

In this case, I actually felt sorry for the girl and not the main character.

Hate to admit this but most women tend to look for a guy who is physical, good at real world skills, and able to make small talk while dominating men nearby with his sheer masculine presence.

Super smart guys are usually none of those things, and thus the gene has a hard time replicating. Yet, if you consider the entirety of human history, the women are exactly correct. Super smart guys are genetic freaks who might have a lot to offer society, but only a stable society where protection and resources are readily available to beta males who would otherwise starve or be killed by an alpha male. In times of yore, these rare smart men would be retained by men of power and means to do certain tricks like pretending to do magic or recite narrative or poetry, or perhaps if they were mechanically minded, to build siege engines for the ruler to conquer his neighbors.
But these men would still just be betas, without real power or authority.

It’s only in our modern ultra-safe and law-constrained world that super uber nerds can rise to fame and fortune and power. However, they’re still fighting a seriously uphill battle with attracting quality women. You can’t fool evolutionary biology.
Look at Zuckerberg the ultimate nerd who got him some power. He’s still with a chick who is maybe a five, and likely has serious social issues. She’s smart, but just as big a nerd and frankly not that attractive for an asian woman.

I have a thread on this topic and Zuck's lady is among the least attractive Asian-American women at Harvard University.

Seriously, if I wasn't into Rin-Wah law, I could snag an Asian woman at Harvard, better looking than Priscilla Chan.

Here are two Asian-American alumna & professors at Harvard ...

Architecture/Urban Design, Grace La:

Law, Jeannie Suk:

So yes, both of the above were top notch students but are considerably more attractive than Pris Chan.

Even there, I'd disagree because lots of women will drool over a Merlin.

Engineering nerds, on the other foot, have no showmanship abilities and at best, will help some pre-sales team, close a deal where only the sales crew get the commissions.
12   Shaman   2019 Oct 30, 3:22pm

We should probably just have a breeding program for the super smart guys. Women looking for sperm donors usually think that sort of thing looks good on paper (who doesn’t want smart children?), but they wouldn’t want to actually have sex with such a man.

She would probably prefer an insemination device that looks like Jodie Foster’s knuckles.

This is why George Michael's best song/video, 'Father Figure', was perfect for the lonely NYC guy who could never get the girl of his dreams ...

And in contrast to those loser Columbia physics/math grad students, even a cabbie like Michael's character has more to offer than those nerds.

Yes, even for Harvard (plus MIT down the road), she's near the bottom of the barrel, like a 4 on a good day.

That's why I'd brought up Grace La and Jeannie Suk because both of them were top of their class students, tenured profs, and considerably more attractive which just shows that Harvard isn't full of fugly Asian women.

Priscilla Chan won the marital lottery by finding the one dropout who became the next SV Bill Gates. Normally, a gal like her would be dating the main character in Paradox or Pi, who couldn't get laid.

Yes, during sex she probably fantasizes about Ellen Degeneres with a turkey baster. She points him in the right direction and makes sure he uses the silverware at the table.
