It's not true. There's no way there would have to be 1 lb of platinum in a broadcast tower. If there was, I might be climbing and cutting down one. That's a lot of money. Platinum has almost no use. If a tower contained that much platinum, every crackhead, and even several normal citizens, would be going after it.
