About time.

WASHINGTON/UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favour of a draft United Nations resolution calling for the United States to withdraw its decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we're watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We'll save a lot. We don't care," Trump told reporters at the White House.

The 193-member U.N. General Assembly will hold a rare emergency special session on Thursday - at the request of Arab and Muslim countries - to vote on a draft resolution, which the United States vetoed on Monday in the 15-member U.N. Security Council.

The remaining 14 Security Council members voted in favour of the Egyptian-drafted resolution, which did not specifically mention the United States or Trump but which expressed "deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem."

In the past few days, not only did the UN presume to nullify our sovereign right to place our own embassies, but the EU told us our tax reform was unacceptable.

Not only did they want to nullify our sovereignity, but also our democratic elections.

Let that sink in.

Baby blue helmets make good high contrast targets at 200 yards. Very easy to hit even with irons.

Er, didn’t you just support the new tax plan? And now you are talking about working on the deficit by quibbling over a few billion in expenditure brought about almost entirely as a consequence of the US’s own disastrous military policies (that in themselves wasted trillions). Go figure.

Journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. I don't think America's Economy will be endangered by cutting a few billion from foreign aid. That's hardly a call for austerity. What the hell are we doing in Afghanistan anymore? My God, we've been there for 16 years already. Like 4 WW2s.

Because the fucking Pakistanis keep supporting the terrorists there. If we took care of Pakistan, Afghanistan would not be a problem anymore.

US foreign “aid” is mostly given to dictators and strongmen who brutally oppress their citizens and give them no choice about foreign policy. These are the best nations to give aid to, as they remain the most loyal to whatever the USA wishes of them in return. Democracies are tough customers, being mainly loyal to their constituents instead of foreign powers offering gifts. US foreign aid mostly is good for helping dictators entrench, pay off their minions who help them remain in power, and helps them continue to ignore the wishes of their population.

The best thing for nearly every nation being given foreign aid by the USA is to have that aid stop forever.

This right here tells you how much trump fails as the country leader. All that money spent buying their votes are wasted because trump has a big mouth and zero diplomatic skill.

Maybe trump should start working for America and not his son in law and the rich Jews who bribe him.

Afghanistan and Pakistan received about $15B in US Aid. More than a third of total US Aid just to those two countries.

Eithiopia? Shy of a billion.

Guess how they voted? Against the USA.

Let's start working on reducing the deficit.

And that statement shows just how little you understand of the situation! Obama’s gave untold billions to Pakistan, escalating payments to unchallenged heights to get them to stop the extremists sending fighters into Afghanistan. This failed miserably, as the Pakis realized they could promise America anything and then fail to deliver and still get even more money!
The fact is that in certain regimes, paying off the leaders to achieve foreign policy goals is ineffective. This is most true in nations with more democracy, where paying off dictators is more or less a sure bet.

But you are correct that we should cease aid to these countries since it’s ineffective and they continue to hate us. We should use aid as strategically as the Chinese, not as wantonly whoring out the wealth of nations as previous Presidents have done with approval of Congress.

Hopefully Trump will reform this aspect of our government as well. With statements like he gave about the UN vote and aid, it appears he’s moving in that direction. Perhaps looking for an excuse, while dragging popular opinion in that direction as well? That kind of move would definitely suit his style, and has the benefit of getting even hostile democrats to agree with him!

It's expected and it's normal. What we are looking for is countries that consistently go against our interests. They are not our friends, and they deserve no aid from us. Fuck Them.

Sounds good to me. President Trump has my whole hearted support.

You are reacting like if it's a child talking to other child.
What if the countries in question have several factions, some of which are against the US, some for it, and help essentially reinforces the faction in US favor?
What if the faction in power is essentially pro US and needs help, but has to pay lip service for the part of its population that is against the US?
What if, though acting in some cases against the US, a country still acts in some cases FOR the US and they wouldn't without the help?

What about other countries? Your single anecdote doesn’t disprove anything not to mention you are arguing the point no one is making. Even trying to bring Obama into this as if trump did any better.
