Rob and Julia Israch won a fierce bidding war for a three-bedroom townhouse in Mountain View, Calif., late last year even though their $750,000 offerwhile $92,000 above the asking pricewas topped by 11 rivals and was several thousand dollars below the highest bid. A key reason: The seller, software engineer Lev Stesin, was moved by a letter in which the Israchs said they worked in the technology industry and explained how the home’s spacious layout would be perfect given the imminent arrival of their first child.

750k for a townhouse and you have to beg the owner to sell that to you. The madness and next month have finally signed papers to move back to CA. Sigh-I must be a maschoist!!!!

My colleague in the mid-west here just signed on to buy a 50k house-a house with a yard. Ok neighbourhood-quite near jobs and low crime and ok school district. She is buying as an investment and it rents for 900 bucks a month.

That's disgusting. You don't see anyone writing love letters to local coin shop operators. Yet, people still think that gold is in a bubble and housing is not. He, he, he.

Just rent - there are still great areas with reasonable rents such as the (outer) sunset by ocean beach. GL

I don't know why this story bothers me so much. If I was the seller I'd tell them to take their feelings to the bank.

With that many offers its standard procedure to get a bj from all potential buyers then maybe sell to those who do it best. Anything else is illegal under CA law- must be equal opportunity in real estate.

You must kidding. Whoever bids the highest, assuming they have good credit and a sizable down payment, wins. I don't want some love letter about my house.

Look we all know what really happend. The listing agent double emded the deal and used her big tits to hypnotize the seller into thinking he chose the low bid because of a love letter - but its the big tits really. Double Ds mean double dip commish!
