Apparently, this happened in Spain when a man forgot to check his pockets and left a large lighter in his pants, threw them in the dryer, and accidentally blew up a building.

I don't know what kind of "Large Lighter" they had, but it obviously wasn't a Bic, I find those in my laundry as I pull them out of the dryer all the time.
But after reviewing that video, perhaps I should be more careful. I mean it only takes one freak accident, to be a freak accident.
Perhaps that was a gas dryer, and the lighter cracked and was filling up gas in the dryer?
I was tapping the side of a bowl, I was smoking out of, with the side of the lighter in my hand. And it exploded on the third tap. Right in my hand, I don't believe it combusted though. It felt like a release of Freon it made my hands, with a loud crack like a fire cracker.
Also back in my adolescence days, I remember smoking with some other delinquents in one of our Livingroom after school while our parents were all still at work. Lurch(a tall lanky blonde haired guy) was rolling a joint while sitting in the lazy boy. He had his cigarette sitting on one of those plastic cheap see through gas station lighters sitting on his knee. The cig burned down to the lighter, and finally burned a small hole. The lighter started whizzing and whistling as it spun around on his knee like a pinwheel firework. With a huge blue flame shooting out of the hole. We were all leaning back with the biggest Oh Shit expressions expecting a big boom any millisecond. Finally it spent all of the fuels and slowed to a stop and quit spinning.
What was weird about that instance, was just weeks before it was in National news, that a welder had one of those lighters in his pocket and it ended up igniting taking out one of his testicles. Perhaps because the gas collected in his pocket.
