My favorite guns are CZ made in the Czech Republic. I have a Glock 42 for concealed carry but 1. It’s not for sale in California 2. Carry in California is usually not permitted.

Florida was the “gunshine state”, you could find all kinds of guns.

Gun stores in California can accept shipments of a gun from an online store. They also can order a gun for you.

Recall in California you can buy a gun with only a 10 round magazine, not 15 (many have 15 round magazines).

Herewith my story for Bayarea and Patrick and others new to buying handguns.

I was shooting from time to time with two brothers and thought I should own my own.

I shot a whole bunch of guns at ranges to decide.

I shot a lot of brands, including Glocks.

Once at Markleys gun store in Watsonville the man said “Try this one.”

I shot the CZ 75 far better than the other guns, and it was accurate as hell.

At the time they were not well known here, now they have a cult.

I took a female shooting and others and everyone loves to shoot it.

The CZ 75 was carried by Soviet and American special forces.

CZ now makes guns out of plastic with a striker (not a hammer), which resemble a Glock.

I’m not sure if all CZ guns are on the “California roster” of guns you can buy here.

It's been awhile since I've done transfer but it was around $75 6-7 years ago ($40 FFL transfer fee + $25 DROS fee). You'll also have to pay CA sales tax to the FFL dealer.

The DP-12 has a huge capacity of 16 x 12 gauge 3" shells, while remaining legal, by using 2 barrels. you can fire 2 rounds before you need to pump new rounds in due to the 2 barrels. Actually I think its 12 rounds in the CA-legal version.

I like shotguns, and a setup like this has lots of capacity, just in case you need it for some rambo defense shit.

HiPoints are fantastic. They're made in the USA, they're the Kalishnokovs of Pistols, you can run them over on a muddy field with an F-150, wipe off the mud with your hand, and it'll shoot. I shot 50 rounds through mine before I realized the packing grease was still on it, didn't make a difference. Fairly accurate. Dirt Cheap. CZ75 clone.

They have 9mm Carbines, and the mags between the carbine and pistol are interchangeable, great for Z Day.

If you're looking just to defend your home, a pump or double barrel shotgun in 20 gauge is just right.

Check out MP Shields as well. They are cheap and reliable.

Buy a Hipoint 9 mm handgun aka Yeet cannon. They are cheap and ugly but reliable. You can also get a Hipoint 995 carbine that uses the same magazine as the handgun. The carbine is better for home defense because it gets better performance out of the ammo. I say this if you live in California.

I prefer a good 1911 any day over a 9 mm. I also prefer a 300 AAC AR carbine which is probably a no no in California.

Pump action shotguns like Mossberg 500 are good. The Keltec shotgun is good if you can find it. I am betting a lever action chambered in 45 colt would be ok in California. I think Rossi just released a new lever action that can eat 45 colt and 454 Casull. The Casull would require only 1 hit to stop an attacker.

If you go with a Glock 17 or 19, look at https://mechtechsys.com. You can easily turn the handgun into a carbine which is legal under federal law.

I just started nosing around online with some of the local gun shops and noticed that all the Glocks are gone. I am looking for a 9MM that is not too big so my wife can shoot it too. Don't need anything too fancy, just something that I would take to the range 2-4 times a year and keep at home for security in a biometric gun safe.

As for reliability, any quick scan of youtube will show you the ridiculous efforts people have to go to deform them until they fail to function.

The Taurus "Judge" mentioned above is also awesome, but it's .45 Colt/.410 and 30 oz. so your wife might not be too comfortable with the heft and recoil.

If I had to choose one thing for home defense, it would be a shotgun, and a hunting style rather than SUPERTACTICAL PISTOL GRIP LASER SIGHT one. The latter is, you look a lot "better" using Grandpa's old Shotgun than SUPERFORCE TACTICAL KILLEMALL BLACKENED STORMSWAT one if an "incident" happens and law gets involved. A plain wooden stock shotgun looks better than UBERTAC PLASTIC ASSAULT SHOTGUN when presented to a jury or stupid ass young prosecutor.

Law Enforcement in my Bay Area city has discovered and solved crimes from lurking and snooping on websites and blogs. That's one thing.

Another, I already threatened to sue a neighbor's landlord over a community safety concern I had. He was scared of his tenant. Rather than confront the tenant he sold the place. Would BayArea or Patrick's landlord like it if their tenant is packing on their property?

Since you likely won’t be able to concealed carry it in California, you don’t need to even consider the shitty subcompacts out there. Good, because they suck to shoot at the range.

I went years with one piece, then I was in Florida with my father and I started to consider a “compact” CZ because you can carry in Florida.

My father was fascinated with the guns I was considering; “This is probably the finest all around gun made, NATO issue sidearm, CZ75 P01.” It’s fantastic and costs $600.

I showed him a fantastic gun but not a compact : Sig Sauer P210, just for his curiosity. They are expensive. “Why not buy the Sig? We can afford the best.”

After I got the P01 which I simply ordered from the gun store, he was fascinated by the awesome workmanship. So was I.

Then I found a clone of CZ (many exist) and picked it up to give to a female. Later she was annoyed with me so I kept it for myself. It’s an excellent gun too.

Springfield Armory makes a good gun (made in Europe) , Walther, F&N, Sig Sauer are good.
Rugers are good but not on the California roster, so are hard to buy.

Bingo! I have never had a malfunction from a Hipoint. They are the cheapest guns out there. They give best bang/$. The blow back action is heavy and large so you wont be able to conceal carry. I gave a $189 Hipoint to my wife and she hid it in the bath room for some odd reason. It was coated in rust when I found it. I took it to the range without cleaning it or cycling the action and the stupid thing worked. The rust was on the outside and it was a thin film. The internals were good.

Owning a Hipoint is a dirty secret pleasure that every gun owner should experience. Think of it like you are fucking a fat chick that gives the best head that you have ever had. Just don't get let your friends know.

I also own a Hipoint 4595 and it kicks ass. It is every bit as good as a CMMG 45 AR in throwing 45 acp down range. It also costs about 1/4 the money of the CMMG. Yes the CMMG is awesome but many cant afford that. I think most people can afford $200 to buy a HD firearm.

Neutron, you'll love this video. Not the pistol, but Detroit woman fends off Teenagers breaking down her back door and trying a home invasion using the Hi-Point 995 Carbine. They dropped back outside after the first shot, then the assholes tried to attack a second time and had to be shot at again.

You can see how rusted, dusty, and beat up the thing is, they probably didn't buy it new, either. Only got it two weeks before after another break in attempt, betcha the wife never handled a firearm before.

Most times a Squib followed by another round is an extremely dangerous situation. Hipoint had a warranty return with 35 bullets stuck in the barrel.

Not sure why the push for hi points other than they are cheap. I work in DoD with a bunch of military guys who know/love guns. Their impression is that they are an ok cheap solution if you want a firearm, but none of the people I know would trust one with their lives.

Most are carrying Glock, MP Shield, Sig & Kimber.

Good choice (if it's on CA's idiotic roster of "safe guns").

As many say, you don't need to buy from a gun store, just pick it up from there. But note that it doesn't necessarily need to be a store, just someone who has FFL for transfers. The latter are usually cheaper in fee.
Selection depends on your intended use, experience, and ability to handle the recoil of course. Trim package / construction depends on if you intend to just use it as a beater tool or as an heirloom. As far as pistols go 380's and 9's are good for small package. 9, .40, .357, .41, .45, and 10 are good for smallish / medium package. All are good in large package. A good trainer that's cheap to shoot is the Beretta M9-22 or its A1 variant.
