Our rental agreement does not say anything about who (landlord or renter) is responsible for yard upkeep. The 'yard' is mostly rock, and when we looked at the house prior to moving in, there was not a single weed anywhere, so we thought there wouldn't be any significant upkeep. What we now know is that there is plenty of dirt under the rocks for weeds to grow, and besides spraying weed killer, the only way to deal with the problem is by weeding. We've rented two other houses before moving to this place, and the owners took care of the yards at both.
I'm tired of pulling weeds, and don't particularly like the idea of spraying weed killer all over the place. So, is it common for the owners of rented houses to expect tenants to do yardwork?
