Man will never make a return trip from Mars, and no extraterrestrial lifeform, that is going to ever come here. I'm certain if there is life in the universe besides just Earth. It will most definitely have followed the same evolutionary path and share similar species as found on Earth. No Xenos no tentacles, no reptilian intelligent creatures.
Yeah, way back in Jr. High the idea of screaming, "Hey we're here!", sounded like a bad idea to me. I remember contemplating it in the gym locker room.
Speaking of neighborhood light years. I had a pal who worked at Southwest Research institute in San Antonio in the 90s. There was an email that spilled too much info related to a brown bag lunch topic.
He showed it to me. Apparently the government was interested in a lot of senior citizens that never so much as caught a cold with scars dating back to 80 years or whatever it was in the 90s that coincided with the closest solar systems vs light speed and back.
They all had some sort of 'alien implant' under those scars with unidentifiable metal.
That was the topic and summary anyway.
He was sort of freaked out the next time I saw him (we met with other friends, bay hopping) and said he couldn't talk about it anymore, some repricutions about the info spill. Not related to him directly but that it was communicated to him and pears needed to STFU.
Solid dude, MS in electrical and mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech.
At the time we agreed that all we really know is true is that the government is interested in studying space alien stuff where at the time they claimed no such thing.
Southwest Research is an odd entity. They do all sorts of contracts for stuff. I've driven by at night and seen minivans driving round and round a course. It looked like some sort of testing for the automobile industry.
When my pal was there he was working on gvt-spy software that listened to all global communication in real time. This was around 1996 before social media. He said it worked.
No idea what he's up to these days.
Entirely possible he was messing with me and I was even more gullible then than I am now - but the email looked real.
One of the worse books I have ever read. Kind of like Tolkien - I only finished it because it received such acclaim. The book was boring as hell and the "science" was reminiscent of a 7th grade writing competition. I think it may have been written in mandarin and translated to engrish so perhaps that was the problem.
Thanks for making me look this up - I had no recollection of it. The Pioneer space craft were both equipped with a plaque as they were the first craft to exit our solar system :
The Voyager spacecrafts were equipped with a "golden record" including sights and sounds from humanity and instructions on how to play said record.
Still, I believe these were mostly NASA P.R. moves as anyone in the program had to realize the absurdity of actually making contact with other intelligent life.
2. One-sided "I am here" if it does
3. Summon the Devouring Swarm 1000 years from now
