I have a 4 day trip up there at the end of July with the wifey and will have appx noon to 9pm free on the Saturday. Was thinking of driving up to half moon bay and then down the coast, stop at Henry Cowell State Park, and then Santa Cruz.
Despite living in California for the entirety of my 50+ years on the planet, I’ve never been to that part of California except driving through San Jose on the freeway.
Is there anything I should not miss out on? I’m assuming even in late July, the coast will not be terribly hot. Is that correct?
Pescadero south of Half Moon Bay is nice, so is the Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Just south of Pigeon Point lighthouse on Hwy1 is a nice park along the ocean, just some trails.
If you're going to come up from Santa Clara on the bay side of the hills before cutting over to the coast to get to Half Moon Bay, you'll go by Palo Alto and Stanford, which are also worth seeing. I'd be happy to meet up with you and any others who are interested.
Highway 280 is far more beautiful than 101, for when you drive north from Santa Clara.
