We often hear that "Taiwan has always belonged to mainland China state" (mostly from the same idiots who say the similar shit about another two countries recently domitating the news). So before Taiwan is in the news the same way (I hope not, but Commies gonna Commie), let's recall the history of who controlled Taiwan when and for how long:

Prehistory to 1624: The history of Taiwan dates back tens of thousands of years to the earliest known evidence of human habitation1. The sudden appearance of a culture based on agriculture around 3000 BC is believed to reflect the arrival of the ancestors of today’s Taiwanese indigenous peoples.

1624–1668: Named Formosa by Portuguese explorers, the south of the island was colonized by the Dutch in the 17th century while the Spanish built a settlement in the north which lasted until 16421.

1661–1683: These European settlements were followed by an influx of Hoklo and Hakka immigrants from Fujian and Guangdong. In 1662, Koxinga defeated the Dutch and established a base of operations on the island.

1683–1895: His descendants were defeated by the Qing dynasty in 1683 and their territory in Taiwan was annexed by the Qing dynasty.

1895–1945: The Qing ceded Taiwan and Penghu to Japan after losing the First Sino-Japanese War in 1895. Taiwan experienced industrial growth and became a productive rice- and sugar-exporting Japanese colony.

1945–Present: In 1945, following the end of hostilities in World War II, the nationalist government of the Republic of China (ROC), led by the Kuomintang (KMT), took control of Taiwan. In 2000, the KMT lost power in Taiwan for the first time.

So, as we can clearly see the mainland China rulers controlled Taiwan for only 212 years out of 5 thousand years of it being populated.
