Just read Paramount Global (i.e., owns CBS) is planning layoffs of 800 workers.

Well....I guess it's better than requiring them to be registered democrats

And to think it's an election year where news consumption goes up, esp. online.

Great news.

the 4th Estate (aka: news media) is dying: https://www.eurasiareview.com/13022024-the-demise-of-traditional-journalism-the-craft-is-quickly-dying-oped/

the news media from local to national is dying: https://www.axios.com/2024/01/26/media-layoffs-strikes-journalism-dying

I remember back in 1983 it was not 24 hour news other than CNN ... news for the most part was 30 minutes for local news at 6 pm and 30 minutes after that for national news (CBS, NBC and ABC) ..

newspapers were very popular along with the classifieds section (up to the dominance of Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, etc)

the Internet is largely responsible for this major change ... it certainly impacted the US Postal Service just by examining number of postal employees peaking around 2001

and now I am learning from family in Las Vegas that the younger or newer generations do not gamble as much as past generations, and the ones who do gamble rather gamble through the Internet and not play in casinos

Junk mail should allowed to be returned to sender with sender required to pay for it...Amen

Speaking of junk mail, and completely off subject, I just trashed a bunch of Realtor fliers talking about how 2023 was great for sellers and that buyers better not bet on interest rates continuing. I snorted and tossed.

AI generated headlines. I'm surprised it didn't suggest skipping all meals and sticking your finger in an electrical outlet for nutrition.

I'll tolerate this as I get free community newspapers in the mail which come with coupons like I got a bunch of coupons for Burger King ($13.50 for 2 large Big Mac meals, $6.99 for large Whopper meal, etc.), Marcos Pizza ($6.99 for medium pizza with 1 topping), etc.

I've noticed a lot of junk mail now is in the form of a few local or community newspapers ... the advertisers write articles in it such as a few wealth managers will write educational articles and then an ad for their firm will be below the article ...they do this instead of sending out junk mail flyers

When I see "return postage paid" on an envelope, I stuff my other junkmail into it and drop it into the mailbox.

Non-profits pay .10 per letter to send us this junk. That is way they keep sending it it's cheap.
