We didn't have the technology we do today. Cameras are cheap today, we have AI that can recognize people, we have infra-red cameras, and the entire border is only 32 miles. It does seem to bugger belief that Israel didn't know and see this happening in real time even if they WERE taken by surprise. Incursion should have been immediately detected.

That's his point of view. His father was not involved in 1973 and he was about 12 at the time, so no personal or intimate knowledge; he wasn't an adult until years after the War.

That there was to be an attack wasn't a surprise, that it was going to be a Carrier based attack at Pearl Harbor was.

It was expected in the Philipines, which is why MacArthur dispersed his aircraft. Whereas on Oahu, the primary threat was believed to be saboteurs, so the aircraft were lined up to make it easier for Security to look down the rows and see if any infiltrators were messing around.

There's a lot of Retrograde Guessing with Pearl Harbor. It was still believed that Battleships, not carriers, were the capital ships and that the latter's job was primarily to support ground operations and do reconnaisance for Battlegroups built around Battleships or Cruisers. Despite the British success against the Italian fleet at Anchor by carrier attack, it still hadn't perculated into the global mindset yet. The Navy did make sure their sub nets and torpedo protections were fully functional, as they primarily expected subs or mini subs to lay mines or try to torpedo the BBs at anchor.

Just like the Wehrmacht blitzkreig tactics based on armored thrusts weren't appreciated until after the Battle of France, though they had been demonstrated during the invasion of Poland.

One thing I know for certain is when there's a "million theories" about a historical event, it means that government is producing bullshit to make it impossible to know exactly what the government DID do.

This is why there's so many "theories" about Pearl Harbor, or JFK's assassination, of 9/11, etc. They're kind of losing this ability with the Internet. The real story comes out pretty quickly, if you know where to look and do some critical thinking.
