I have to wonder whether someone really wanted to destroy that data, and so blocked backups to other locations.

You know there was at least one guy, probably many more, sounding the alarm on that shit who was ignored.

Not likely in an Asian culture. Korea - like Japan, the nail that sticks out is hammered down, too.

On Today's Clusterfuck:

The Vatican decided to have a dedicated prayer room set aside for visiting Muslims.

How long until they outlaw bacon at the Vatican ???

Maybe I should have said, "I hope" instead of "You know", sadly.

After the Great Financial Crisis, certain protections were put in place to protect Americans from unscrupulous Banksters. Banksters were even Eeeeek Gasp supposed to make an effort that the loans they made could be repaid along with other protections. Car Dealerships (the number 1 or 2 money spending lobbyist groups on a local level) campaigned hard and fast to exclude car loans from all these other protections being afforded. Obama folded and had car loans excluded

This has led to today's Clusterfuck.

A 2025 analysis by Goodcar calculated the average car ownership to income ratio in all 50 states. The most “car poor” states with the highest spending as a percentage of income included:Kentucky: 42.8%

West Virginia: 43.7%

Louisiana: 45.8%

Mississippi: 46.7%

New Mexico: 46.9%

In New Mexico for example, residents earn a median household income of $50,822, yet spend an average of $23,853 per household on car ownership.

You're here reading a Housing Bubble Blog, and are in amazement at how stupid people can be. Just these 5 States make up hundreds of Billions of dollars of financial waste every year. Banksters and car Dealers taking advantage of suckers. The politicians bought off to allow the grift.

Somalis are weak sauce in the Fraud arena.

Car dealers taking advantage of "suckers" is not fraud nor grift. The customers know exactly how bad a deal it is and do not care. For example, the title loan paperwork explicitly points out that the $1200 loan is at 92% and the borrower will end up with payments totaling about $7,000. The customer for these arrangements are short sighted clowns who do not care about the future as long as they can have the car or money right away. The clown's horrendous credit is why the only agencies that will loan them money are the usury specialists. By the way, politicians do not "allow grift," they collect grift.

In 2–3 years, there will be no way to tell what’s real and what’s not…

I disagree.

Much like traffic laws with only civil penalties and no criminal penalties only encourage wanton lawlessness….theres multiple parts of Los Angeles where red lights are advisory at best….shit loans only available to shit people encourage buying cars regardless of cost, making one or two payments, and then playing dodge the repo man for as long as possible.

Now how the dealers and loan companies profit from this? I really haven’t figured that part out.

A guy I knew in Omaha owned a used car lot that financed. He would buy a car at auction for $500 and sell it for $1800 with $500 down. After the buyer missed a few payments he would repo and sell the car again.
