Thomas Reed, senior US national security official, claims in his book “At The Abyss” that the United States allowed the USSR to steal pipeline control software from a Canadian company. This software included a Trojan Horse that caused a major explosion of the Trans-Siberian gas pipeline in June, 1982. The Trojan ran during a pressure test on the pipeline but doubled the usual pressure, causing the explosion. (#1, #2)

“In order to disrupt the Soviet gas supply, its hard currency earnings from the West, and the internal Russian economy, the pipeline software that was to run the pumps, turbines, and valves was programmed to go haywire, after a decent interval, to reset pump speeds and valve settings to produce pressures far beyond those acceptable to pipeline joints and welds,” Reed writes. (#3)

The scheme to plant bugs in Soviet software was masterminded by Gus Weiss, who at the time was on the National Security Council and who died last year. Soviet agents had been so keen to acquire US technology, they didn’t question its provenance. (#4)

I would think that the Russians would be well aware of Trojan Horses in software, because the majority of such software comes from ex-Soviet states.

Russia has world-class programmers, especially in the nefarious aspects of programming.

Maybe the Canadians sent that turbine back infected with CIA Trojans? It was what the Russians were asking for to turn the gas back on in Europe, right? They wanted their spare parts which were seized and held by Canada. And Canada finally returned the parts about a month ago. Maybe the parts came with a little something extra…

The pipelines weren't running at the time of the explosions. Neither NS1 nor (especially) NS2.

BTW if Poles blew up the pipeline, I say good riddance. Serves Russians and Germans right.

LNG companies should do real well with the problems going on in Germany and rest of Europe as far as natural gas supply.

LNG companies like Cheniere Energy, Inc. have been on a tear. Its around $167 and was $66 in January 2020.

I was thinking about rolling the dice and putting $1000 into a cheaper natural gas play called Tellurian Inc which is around $2.

comes across like another cia planted rumor

Are there any insurance companies out there that are going to insure any pipeline after this????

Funny...LNG facilities don't react well to pretty much anything unusual.
