They stopped championing the liberal ideals I stood for my entire life, and started taking political correctness too far. They became the pearl-clutching cultural scolds. They became the leftist version of the religious right that I used to despise in the 90’s, excoriating society for its egregious sins and admonishing us to follow the rules their priests impose upon us from the pulpit.

It’s been rather interesting to watch. The Republicans spent the last 30 years conceding to most of the demands of the left. As a result, they now effectively embody those liberal ideals I have always stood for, namely free speech, free association, free markets, basic human dignity for all, compassionate but measured approaches to society’s problems, and a deep appreciation of our great country.

The Democrats decided to go the other way, and are now the authoritarians who want to impose their world view, silence their opposition, cherry-pick data to suit their political agendas, deny or ignore data that don’t align with their narratives, de-fund, de-platform, destroy careers and livelihoods, control the public discourse, etc. They’ve essentially anointed themselves the arbiters of morality and justice, and demand that everyone else follow suit or else.

When I was a Democrat back in the 90’s, we used to complain that the religious right was “shoving their morality down our throats.” Oh, how the tables have turned.

Conceding? The Republicans have ALWAYS stood for "free speech, free association, free markets, and basic human dignity for all." The left has NEVER stood for free markets.

The psychology is really important here. It's very painful for Democrats to admit they were horribly wrong and have been backing sheer evil for a long time. This is why they fail to switch parties. It's just basic human nature to want to avoid pain.

So what is the best approach? Currently, I just try to water seeds of doubt among friends and relatives, though I'm not sure I have any more liberal friends, lol.

But my point is that leftists need to come to the conclusion that the left is evil on their own. They can't be dragged or forced into it. It's like a 12-step process:

1. We admitted we were powerless over leftist ideology — that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.

4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed by being a leftist, and became willing to make amends to them all.

9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to leftists, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Maybe there really does need to be an international support organization for people recovering from leftism.

One of the sources that convinced me that everything the left says is wrong is Heartiste:

That guy deserves the Nobel Prize for most coherent and useful explanation of how women really are.

I was a teenage liberal; it's pretty typical for the species, and liberal brainwashing happened to me at the school I attended for a couple of years.

I became a non-liberal when I learned about taxes and losers who get free shit from the government; oddly enough this was most clear to me after living a winter on now infamous Martha's Vineyard.

The locals mostly went on unemployment in the winter; they were dependent on the "summer people" as they were called.

Guys in "the trades" did OK since the summer houses needed upkeep, remodeling, or building.

If you believe that it's OK to pick someone's pocket to give his blood sweat and tears to someone who is either a loser or lazy, then you're liberal.

I believe I understand free speech and thought very well having watched the Twilight Zone episodes at an early age.
People being called "obsolete" by the government censors, other episodes about panic in the suburban neighborhood, etc. were illustrative during the Wuhan "pandemic" and the stolen election news censorship.

The mere concept of speech being "incorrect" or "violent" is totally absurd but some people actually don't know this.
Fauci saying he was the abiter of facts was right out of a Twilight Zone episode.

I may have always been anti-establishment; lately the establishment is liberal and I'm against it.
Previously the establishment wanted to draft me and send me to Vietnam and I didn't like that idea much either.

I know a guy who works part year for the IRS as telephone customer service. He job is active for only a few months around tax season. For the rest of the year, he collects unemployment and since he has a hire date the next season, is exempt from the requirement to actively seek work. He has been doing that stunt for years. No one seems to care, any more than about Buttigieg taking 4 months paternity leave immediately after taking the Transportation gig.
