Facebook versus Tik Tok

What are your views on Facebook or Meta stock ?

Statista shows from early 2021 to present the monthly active users (MAU) on Facebook is 2.93 billion. The most recent data found through a Google search shows the consensus of 1 billion for MAU for Tik Tok.

I have used Tik Tok but it's nowhere near Facebook such as Facebook marketplace or group pages, as my HOA uses a Facebook page to communicate and post documents (instead of paying for a website).

CNBC recently quoted Tik Tok owners as saying they are an entertainment company not a social platform.

Also Facebook Reels seems to be catching on as I am seeing popular Reels videos posted in my feed. From what I've read such as Bloomberg, CNBC, and , Reels is becoming more popular.

Combine this with Facebook owning Instagram and WhatsApp. I hope they don't screw them up and can monetize them (more).
As far as VR , I hope Facebook (or Meta) can make it more for education such as for training such as physical and life science labs, etc. Also combine entertainment with education like Disney does with Epcot.

Another is maybe they apply current R&D to develop assisted or augmented technology like eyeglasses. The eyeglasses provided additional information of the environment around you, as well as provide other assistance features. Its not like in the movie Minority Report but its similar in context as far as beneficial features.

I have sold stuff on Facebook marketplace very easily and I prefer it to Craigslist, LetGo and Ebay.

Nobody but old people use Facebook. Ticktock is for people with an IQ of 100 and below, it's just endless distraction.

Neither of these companies provide any sort of service.

You obviously are not aware of what Facebook offers. I have and my friends have sold a lot of merchandise on Facebook Marketplace.

My HOA uses a Facebook group page that is better than a website and costs $0 to administer.

I have seen classes used Facebook group pages as a way to educate, distribute class information, and conduct discussion board style communications.

Look at Facebook Reels and you will see a lot of posts made by people who are in their 20's and 30's.

It's a website that actively censors and prevents communication. The purpose of the company is to record your communications and if you're engaging in commerce there, to study what you are selling so it can be duplicated. It's primarily an intelligence gathering tool, but secondly, it's a marketing research tool.

I know exactly what it is. Have you ever bought a product from an ad you've seen on Facebook? Isn't that odd, when - supposedly - that's how they make their money, through advertisement.

You're on the most powerful research and communication tool ever made by mankind. It perplexes me that people want "a class". What people want is a solution to a problem, the class is just the bullshit in their way to that solution.

Facebook is a tool of study and enslavement for what I would guess Orwell would have called the Proles. Every communication you make on it, including "direct messages" are available for 3rd party review. You have no privacy on it.

Facebook as much as I hate it really does have value. I WILL sell my house from it and not use a broker and will refuse to have the buyers broker listed on the HUD if they have one. I walk with 5% more. We said we're moving and we already are getting interest just by word of mouth. I post it on FB it's sold in a week, I can promise that. FB just made me about $15k.

The Realtor lobby is strong, but at some point it will change like taxis versus uber/lyft. At minimum commissions will come down bigly. I can easily do all my own marketing and the Realtor just becomes a secretary you maybe pay 1% to handle showing scheduling which still involve work on my end. Your phone can take good enough to great photos if you figure it out. The average person knows someone or has a drone with high quality video/photo. Realtor are useless outside of the MLS.

You're paying for access to the MLS. That's not worth 5-6%. I spent a decade plus in the industry. We sold maybe 2-3 houses out of 1k transactions by open house. All the TV shows are pure bullshit. It's for the listing brokerage to get buyer leads. They know they're not going to sell the house that way. You price a house right on Monday, it should be gone by the weekend open house times.

Again I don't like FB on a privacy level. But I've sold tons of used shit on market place. Maybe a couple grand. Old kid shit that they don't use anymore is a biggie. We got our use out of it and got some our money back and the person buying it gets it cheaper than retail. Win win for both people. Probably even make money now with this inflation.

Facebook is good for it's marketplace, but nothing else. I would not invest in it.

I'd never invest in it for sure. Maybe that will bite me down the road, but I don't care. I'm low risk and for my age I'm doing very well. I'm very close to taking some more risk though. We'll see. I need to see what November brings politic wise. This inflation is a bit alarming.

All my money is protected and we keep monthly usage money in the checking account. Basically you can't touch my money or house in any scenario outside of criminal dealings and that ain't me.

When I said "class", I meant a course such as a test preparation course for the GRE or Professional Engineering exam. I see tutoring services used Facebook also. It's a tool.

Just don't use Facebook for personal or confidential messages if there is a concern over privacy.

My home owners association uses it as well, as its a free alternative to paying for a website. And it is easy to use and offers just as many features.

I just see it as a modern-day version of the bulletin board in school, or even the bulletin board system (BBS) of the 1980's which I accessed with my Commodore 64 and modem.
