The U.S. congresswoman made several false claims while speaking to Houston students about Monday’s solar eclipse.

Jackson Lee, who shockingly once led the House Science Committee’s space subcommittee, told the high school students that the moon is a “planet” that is “made up mostly of gases.”

The false statements from Jackson Lee stunned the crowd of teenagers at Booker T. Washington High School.

“You’ve heard the word ‘full moon,’” Jackson Lee told the students who were with her on a sports field before the eclipse.

“Sometimes, you need to take the opportunity just to come out and see a full moon is that complete-rounded circle, which is made up mostly of gases.

“And that’s why the question is: Why or how could we as humans live on the Moon?

“Are the gases such that we could do that?”
