Overturning Roe was always going to create a shit storm and suck the oxygen out of the room, no matter what else is going on in the world.

Better to get over the histrionics now instead if this happening a few weeks before the midterms or presidential election cycle. Texas basically banned abortion a few months ago and we haven't heard a thing about it in weeks. I figured the NYTimes and WAPO would have been pumping out all sorts of stories about women (front hole people?) dying in back alley abortion clinics by now.

Another perspective:

Roe leak to take attention away from 2000 Mules and the abundant evidence of wide scale voter fraud that it contains.

Another one from same source:

Why would you be worried about access to ‘abortion’, when you can just take the MRNA injection and miscarry?
53   Tenpoundbass   2022 May 3, 11:43am

I wonder if the Liberal voters are wise enough to know their commie politicians they support and donate to, are doing a royal mind fuck on them?
They are sacraficing "Established Law" Ruth G B's crowning achievement, the very number one reason they went demonic pure hell schitzoid when Kavanaugh was being confirmed to SCOTUS. They are kicking it back down to the States, but SCOTUS is draging their feet before the election. That the Commie Scumbags and the ministry of truth and disinformation can't spin it as an election issue. With so many states poised to flip to a MAGA governor and legislation this midterm election. They need a good solid boogey man to argue why DeSantis is a bad guy. Saying because he wont let them make your 5 year old a turnt out tranny Pedo prostitute, it turns out isn't politcal gold they hoped it would be. I mean it's bringing down trillion dollar stocks over the issue.

So now they need place the whole abortion argument and blame on Ron DeSantis and the other Republican governor hopefuls that are on track to win.

"They go put us all in chains and make us have that baby! And they wont let Roger have Harvey Milk's DNA test tube baby!"

Woe is us! Save us from those Nazi Republican governors!

I can hear it now, I'm just punching everyone I have to argue with over the next two elections. There's no point in arguing with that level of stupidity, they would have us all killed at this point. Slap them out of it, and kick the fucking shit out of the bastards, don't take one minute of their twisted Shit!

Now that you know their game!

AmericanKulak says
No basis in the Constitution or Common Law precedence; abortion had always been banned or tightly regulated. Therefore, reserved to the States.

Yes, I think that is the reasoning. Here is a quote from the leaked doc:

“The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion,” the draft concludes. “Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”
58   Tenpoundbass   2022 May 3, 12:07pm

This way when they steal the next two elections, they can say "The Abortion issue brought out all of the transgender people to vote on the issue"
59   Tenpoundbass   2022 May 3, 12:22pm

Alright listen up all you dick swinging preggos out there, you're about to lose your abortion rights. Oh and the other people too!

What is the legal reasoning behind overturning it?

Supposedly no right to privacy in the Constitution. At least that's what they were going on about on Rising this morning with the Dean of UC Berkeley School of Law. Needless to say, I was quite surprised...

“Remember, the Supreme Court is not the ones that will get the final word on Roe v. Wade. It is Congress that gets the final word,” Warren explained.

I disagree. It is the state legislatures which get the final word.

Liz Warren had a trembling freakout today, it was hilarious.

We're going back, Liz. Back to the 50s.

2. Get head.
3. Use birth control.

66   SunnyvaleCA   2022 May 3, 2:55pm

For all the memes revolving around only women being in charge of deciding this issue, we should note that Roe v. Wade was decided 7-to-2 in favor of abortion by an all male supreme court. Sandra Day O'Connor was appointed 8 years later in 1981.
67   EBGuy   2022 May 3, 4:56pm

Good summary about The Right of Privacy:
The question of whether the Constitution protects privacy in ways not expressly provided in the Bill of Rights is controversial. Many originalists, including most famously Judge Robert Bork in his ill-fated Supreme Court confirmation hearings, have argued that no such general right of privacy exists. The Supreme Court, however, beginning as early as 1923 and continuing through its recent decisions, has broadly read the "liberty" guarantee of the Fourteenth Amendment to guarantee a fairly broad right of privacy that has come to encompass decisions about child rearing, procreation, marriage, and termination of medical treatment. Polls show most Americans support this broader reading of the Constitution.
...
The Burger Court extended the right of privacy to include a woman's right to have an abortion in Roe v Wade (1972), but thereafter resisted several invitations to expand the right.

Just scrolled this thread. How in the hell did you two miss that? That was the first thing I saw in the image. Chicks brawling is funny, but I'm a peacemaker generally. I saw the bong first... On reflection, I think there is a strong basis to conclude that it's a state's right to choose whether to allow abortion or not.

I think Biden may have told judges to make this decision to galvanize democrats..especially women and then win elections.

Eh. I'd say the majority D or R is generally against abortion. It's the vocal minority that speaks out. That's the way it is with everything.

My nephew is one of the few blacks in an all white school district basically. He's the most popular kid. His best buddies family owns probably 1-2k acres of farmland, I grew up playing sports against the kids dad. They have 5-6 combines worth $300-400k each and all the other related equipment. We're not as divided as the media would have you believe. Honestly turn off the TV and social media.

If someone (not you) wants to call Patnet an echo chamber, cool. The alternative is far worse at this point.
72   pudil   2022 May 4, 5:52am

It is the right thing to do, I don’t care if it galvanizes democrats. Roe was a terrible decision that has been ripping this country apart for 60 years.

Even if congress passes an equivalent law tomorrow, it would be 1000% better then the current situation. At least then the American people could have a say in the laws that govern them instead of unelected judges.

Better yet, leave it to the states to decide the controversial issues that we will never be able to agree on. That is how this country was designed.

Overturning Roe is like pulling a bullet out of your arm. Yes it’s going to hurt, but we won’t be able to heal until we do.
