Does anyone else see a parallel here with WW1 and the Versailles Treat? Along with intentional ruination of Germany's currency with reparations? That combo brought a Hitler.

Now we had NATO expanding east, and just 3 weeks before Putin invaded Kamala was in Europe enticing Ukraine to join NATO and for Russia to "bring it on" if they dare to invade. Now we have the payback in Rubles since the West shut off access to Russian non-Ruble money held in foreign banks.

What use is it for putin to say "you can pay foreign debts in rubles, instead of dollars".

Isnt it the lender that decides what they will accept?

China was talking about allowing their SEOs to buy up/invest in Gazprom and other Russian Energy assets.

Offering to take payments for Chinese Goods and interest in RMB.

They're also making a deal to replace Visa/MC/Amex with Union Pay.

China would be happy to extend credit to Russia: Their other main customer (China is the same as UK and Germany combined in Gas buys from Russia) is still buying.

I wonder if buying call options on a russia etf like RSX might be a decent play now that they seem to be progress in talks to stop the war? I figure the sooner it ends, the less sanctions that will be applied.
