Singapore's government announced Monday that it would no longer cover the healthcare costs of obese patients.
"Currently, obese persons make up a sizeable majority of those who require intensive inpatient care, and disproportionately contribute to the strain on our healthcare resources," the country's health ministry said in a statement.
"We will begin charging porky patients who are obese by choice" on Dec. 8," the statement continued.
The government has covered medical bills for all Singaporeans, but that stance appears to be changing.
