We don't agree often lately, but on this I will. She's just lucky to have a state that by default socially distances through no government action. So she doesn't really have to lock down. And people are tending to look at gross numbers and not per capita. S. Dakota really can't have that big of a death number versus a NY, CA, IL, etc. She looks like the knight in shining armor, but it's not through any action she's taken. Besides fracking, no one voluntarily goes to South Dakota either, especially during the time of year this broke out.
I'd also be shocked to see someone from that region of the country become POTUS, especially a politician. While the concepts of being a governor are the same, the scale, size and pressure of the US government is substantially different than S. Dakota.
Among the least dense states, South Dakota may be ok with natural social distancing.
